Recorded some new parts for this tune last week. Been mixing for a few days and I think this is approaching where I want it to be. So I thought I would post this and see if there's anything that needs adjusting.

Listen to Your Heart

Momma always told me someday you’ll settle down
When you least expect that special girl will come around
And if you ever wonder if your love is true
Just listen to your heart cause it will tell you what to do

Chorus
Listen to your heart, is it truly love
Listen to your heart, the one you’re dreaming of
If you need the answer it’s waiting there for you
Just listen to your heart that special voice inside of you

When we started out I thought about the lessons I had learned
Like when you give your love and get no loving in return
Was the love I felt for you truly meant to be
Or would loving you become a painful memory

Chorus

Bridge
The fire that burns inside me every time we touch
Never even close to loving anyone so much
I knew you were the one for me I knew right from the start
Cause Momma was so right when she said listen to your heart

So I asked my heart about you, now I know the time has come
I want to tell the world I love you, and you’re that special one
My heart was there to guide me and it’s given me this chance
To hold you in my arms and let me share this sweet romance

Chorus

First things first, I think the lyrics are very good. Conversational, consistent, simple and straightforward; and the story goes from point A to point B.

The mix is pretty good. I find the kick has a lot of ultra low energy that could be eq'd out. There might be some other imbalances with the drum submix, but the kick is the obvious for now.

I like the counter melodies with the strings.
Your vocal performance is spot on as always. I've always admired the tone of your voice. It fits with every song you write.

Cool man.

Thanks chili I'll look at that kick - it's a stereo drum track so I may need to fiddle a bit...

Your vocals are very good. The keyboard sound is not to my taste, but then... that's just my taste. A very well constructed song, quite moving, especially when I read the story behind it. My wife always says I sound write something romantic, but I'm no good at the sort of things. You're wife is very lucky.

The vocal sounds a bit like it's being sung through a cardboard tube, VERY boxy and hollow. I'm not sure what you did ... but I'd address it. Other than that, the mix is well balanced and very good.

Hey KDub - vocals are Rode NTK thru an Alesis mixer with Pantheon reverb and Modern Lost Angel comp plugs. Not sure which might be giving that effect....

Hey toad_uk - yeah my wife is pretty much my inspiration for all my love songs ( I have too many probably too). The other songs are the opposite - about beeyotches who screwed me around before I met her...lol...

It's probably the Pantheon, bud. Do you have it in the track or did you Aux it?

If the setting on the aux is 100% wet (if not it should be), did you eq the reverb itself? Also, what is the setting on the Lexicon?

Gerry,
I don't hear any boxiness in the vox. The song is just lovely, you have this niche well sorted mate. Listening closely to the key/string lines: the lines are reaaly good. I was trying to figure out a way of getting a really complimentary tone - have you played with an E-bow? The strings sound, in my headphones, to lean to one side. Is that intentional?
GREAT song & the mix is 99.9% sorted.

The reverb is set to Concert Hall at 20% wet - I found that really wet when I solo it, but maybe I should reconsider. The send is 2.5 on the vocals and the actual AUX volume is around -11 db. (This is all Sonar 6) No eq on the effects send AUX channel.

Thanks for the compliment on the string lines :-) . I like playing keys as they are "new" and inspiring compared to just guitar. The strings are stereo but I panned them left 20 so I can get them away from the vocals/bass/drums which are centered. Too much pan maybe?
