My first run at recording last night using my new mixerless system..........i recorded @ 24-bit 96k*(I know, OVERKILL!)

I'm using a Delta 1010LT - Behringer MDX4600 - DmP3 preamp....

---Sm57 on snare
---CAD 412 on kick
---(2) Sennheiser 880 "vocal" mics for overheads LOL !
---CAD nk1 on hi hats

Rogue Bass guitar is Direct

and Ibanez MMM1 Guitar through Line6 HD147 (direct out)...double tracked.:Smug:

Not bad at all. The snare could use some highs. I'd try to find a way to mic the bottom of the snare aswell. What kind of the mic is the CAD you used on the hihat? I can't find any info on it on the web.

Try something like this and see if you like it:

Take one of the sennheiser overheads and put it vertically underneath the snare, pointing at the wires. As close you can get it. Phase reverse that channel.
Now take the SM57 and put it at the side of the snare that has the hihat exactly oposite to it. That way you will pick up a little more hihat through the snare top mic, because the SM57 is hypercardioride. It might sound bad, it might not, try it.
Take you're hihat mic and put it up high above the drums as a mono overhead. Higher than you would normally put the overheads. Point it at the middle of the drums. Big chance you're gonna get quite a bit of snare in there but that doesn't have to be a problem.

Now you should have one Sennheiser left. Use it to mic the basscab. It will help the bass sit better in the mix (right now it's quite undefined).

I'd also move the kick mic a little more to one side, so that's it's less in front of the beater.

it is an old nk1 I think......they don't make it anymore.

I purchased a pair of Meek Jm27 condenser overheads with stands for $100. Hopefully, they will sound better than those 880 vocal mics.

I also am getting a kick trigger and d4 real soon too.

Overall good sounding.

I'm wondering why you're even micing the hi-hat. In this recording it is the clearest, brightest sounding part of the drums, more so than the rest of the kit, so it sounds a little out of place--if you follow me.

Nice mix, except I think the bass drum sounds a bit meaty in comparison with the cymbals/rest of the percussion. Also I dunno if you put any verb on the kit but if so it sounds a little wet--it could just be your drum room though.
