Hustle Magic!! We Got It.
I figure I would post this so everyone know how everyone do business with other clients...
(cause in here we take care of each other for free.....LOLOLOLOL)

like how much you charge(producers/beatmakers, vocalist, engineers) or will pay(vocalist)?
Terms you live by..

stuff like that..

--ALL tracks are sold under these terms:

1. I will not receive royalties from the sale of records unless you are signed with an independent or major label, in which case I will work with you and/or your coordinator of your project to figure the correct splits depending on how many tracks I have provide.

2. I will receive royalties from sale of records if you receive music on good faith, in which case I will work with you and/or your coordinator of your project to figure the correct splits depending on how many tracks I have provide.

3. I will retain the copyright to the music (not the lyrics) and therefore receive a mechanical royalty from the sale of records/radio airplay, etc. as the writer of the music.

*tracks can only be used for independent or commercial release only if they have been paid for in full and royalty/publishing figures have been consented upon through written agreements of both parties, producer, artist and/or a representative for artist.

--License fees are negotiable on a case-by-case

my terms are learning info so that i can start selling my beats cuz right now all i see is negative numbers from buying things and i'm not selling nothin. my house kept gettin robbed in crack head central so i moved so i could actually keep my equipment for more than a week and there ain't no hip hop heads out here so i make beats to no avail...i need to learn how to sell sell sell lol. any advice?

you gotta network give a few free beats to artist that hit u up that has talent and makin some noise..

i know i let a few artist use tracks for their album or project without paying as long as i get royalties from sales..

every situation is different...

I'll be meeting with a record exec this afternoon to discuss a contract with being a vocal coach/song coordinator for a couple of soloists and a few groups. I am doing my research on what the normal fees are, what they are offering, and what I think my worth is. This is new to me so I can't just demand ish, but I don't want to be short changed either. I'll keep y'all posted with what happens. If this works out, my wife and I may just open up a voice training business........(Just a thought!)

well if you dont through a number at them u will never know....they will try and talk u down..keep us informed...

now back to making beats :D

My terms are simple, you wanna rap over osmethinfg ask me and its yours. See ive onlybeen at this 6months, os i gues steh only wya i can promote mysle fis ging out free tracks.

*Mixtape or no big distribution: Lease or buy exclusive

*Big project with sales and distribution: Royalty points & publishing (down payment on beat just incase)

* I push the project: Royalty points & publishing ( a lot more points of sales since I invested) No studio time charge. Now this is for projects that I know will sale and get a profit from!

* License music for TV or radio: Publishing

There is more to this. But, this is just the simple list...

The cool thing about publishing is that you get paid everytime something is performed or played. So even something you did 5 years ago can be replayed and you get paid...

For first time artists giving a free beat is cool. Make a list of FREE beats and then you have a list of lease and exclusive. The FREE beats are not the hottest ones. Just a nice offer to folks... But, let them know it;s a ONE TIME thing.

I also take off 15%-20% if they buy 4 or more beats...

My terms are simple:

Stay the fuck out of my studio! It's MY studio, not your studio, so stay the fuck out.

My clientele list is tiny. So is my friend list. Got a long list of gear though. Yup.

so true...if their buget cannot cover it i will do..dont lease beats cause i dont want more then one artist doing the track. and like u said publishing is everything...and no one should give up all rrighs to there beats.IMO..

I charge $100 for vocal collabs, which gets them a 16 and a hook. I retain my publishing for the track.

For mixing/mastering services, $35 an hour.

thinking about rewriting my terms...

dont know yet...gotta fiqure some good terms if i do..

damn soundclick acting up..cant redo my terms..ooh well

Mine are fairly simple.

Mine can be leased or bought exclusive. I retain rights on the beat itself but nothing else.

For custom beats, I want a down payment after consulting with the artist to see what I need to do, before I even hit a key on the controller. Usually depending on difficulty, my price range is $300 - $1500.

I'll use samples if the artist wants it but the artist is responsible for clearing them.

I give music in good faith only if it's recorded at my place and one of my people or myself have at least one verse in the track. Of course you guys are different.

List goes on for stuff like royalties, points, and publishing.

Fiev.

I'll never hand out a sample CD unless the quality is so terrible you don't want to use it, or vocal tags are all over that son of a bitch. I figure, they've already heard the beat either on the site or

i feel you Fieva...i think im just goin to leave it as this...cause this is what it really boils down too..

now gotta rework my pricing for tracks..
not into the leasing thing cause i dont like have a bunch of artist on the same track..so i know that not something to think about at all..

i will figure something out... :D

Hello,

I have a question.. i am starting to see alot of production companies post up websites selling beats. Is this profitable? I do realize there is a market for just selling music independent music.

I'm from the old school and the business aspects of today have me a little worried. There's so much thieft going on.. even if you have people legally purchasing temporary rights to use your music .. there's always the chance of people just downloading and re-engineering your stuff to work for them.

How do you protect yourself? The normal copyright process yes, but it's almost impossible to trace some of the thieft.

I want to create a production company and do this independent sales.. i'm just wanting to know how everyone else is doing.
