I wonder if anyone of you know something about
the latest Linkin Park production. What equipment
they used to get such great guitar sound, beside Messa and a PRS guitar.

I have a project coming in with a very similar sounding guitar desires.

Anyone

what? linkin park doesn't have great anything......except suckage....

Give the guy a break he has a very good Question based on
sound not how you feel what is good quility music.
It will all depend on what you are recording to, Dig or analog.
this changes a lot in how you record the sound you are
looking for.

Thanks for your wise words.

Well I will record on a PC system through Apogee converters.
And I will have great equipment available for the session:

ISA preamp/EQ
manley passive EQ
tubetech rec channell
tubetech compressors
distressor
fatso

and some other great analog boxes... plus tons of great plugs later on.

I could also use the analog tape, but it's not so great for recording a guitar. Not so practical.

Regarding the guitar and the amp it will be Messa and PRS or 7s string Ibanez.

Am I missing something important here?
What Mic? Other detailes...

I one of my daughter's CD's of them on the computer to look at the wave form. Massive, massive compression.

If that's your route I'd suggest rolling off everything that's not necessary after finding a sweet spot in the mix and you should punch through just fine.

To be honest I have not heard there lasted cd but I have there
last one. Is the new CD different from there last with the
guitar tones??
IF so let me know, other wise I will take a listen this weekend to
the other cd to try and get a feel for it.
BUT I will tell ya some of the newer bands like Godsmack and
Disturbed have that wall of guitar that most the smaller to
mid size studios even $80 hr studios dont achieve, I have heard
many groups that go into local good studios to try and get that
sound and never quit get there.
A lot of it is very very expensive gear and experiance working with
the few engineers that have been working with the latest groups
going for that sound.
If you listen to metel guitar before about 1998 it sounds nothing
like the sound of like Godsmack. it sounds like the amp is a foot in front of you and you almost wonder how your even hearing the drums.
sorry for ramblin. that Distressor of yours sounds like a good bet
I will let you know any thing I find out.

Just from knowing the style a little i would say a mesa and a prs should do pretty well for you.

I'm listening to their single, the distortion on this sounds pretty crunchy almost digital; at least in the verses. But then again, this whole song has the hip-hop sampled/digital sound going for it.

I can hear obvious double tracking on pretty much every guitar, if not all of them. This type of music is usually mixed, and written, so the guitars and bass work as one. You can't really hear the bass. It's there more to fill in below the guitars with a low end growl.

one of my questions was is the guitar sound the same as there
last CD sence this is the only one I have.

Brad Delson used a Marshall Plexi, Mesa Boogie Oversized cabs, and a setup of PRS and Ibanez guitars.
