Line6 POD - Is it worth it ?

POD and AX2 both are based on the same amp modeling technology, so there's more about them that is similar that just their manufacturer.

Price drops/rises

One thing I would throw into the mix here is that the J-Station is now selling for $199 at a lot of places, while the POD is going for $350. I demo'd both, and found that the POD was better in some cases, and the J-Station was better in others. I opted for the J-Station though based on price, the bass models, and the better effects. I posted a review on Hamony Central, http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Data/Johnson_Amplification/J_Station-01.html, I think mine is second from the top.

My summary would be that these tools are great for the hobbyist/semi-pro home studio buff, but obviously professionals are going to want to use the real thing.

Re: A hand job for $350 or $10,000 worth of hookers??

i guess that's the best comparison in this thread.

Masturbating is fine but only if you're a virgin ( or cannot find another girl/boy after the first left!) plus it's not as expensive and much more efficient and convenient!

al chuck: yeah, maybe "BASED". but if you only heard an AX2 then you shouldn't think the pod sounds the same and buy it because it really doesn't sound the same.
the pod is pretty much the same as the flextone - and there's miles between the flextone and the ax2.

but anyway... just buy the pod, you all! it was a great deal when it first appeared but now it's just too expensive - not really for what you get but there are cheaper alternatives.

rp100

a good solution for just jumping into the new oacean of amp modeler multieffects units may be a digitech rp100 i have found this modle for as low as 59.00 at the musicians friend clearance center
and for tube warmth run it through a tube compressor like the art levelar you will need a compessor anyway and this will round off the sqare waves which will leave the peaple guessing about how the sound was done.
maybe someday the multifects might end up with real tubes in them that will be a great day for home recording.

I tried something new yesterday. I have a Korg ax1000g multieffect pedal with amp and speaker emulation. It costs about 2/3 of a POD.

Well, I hooked this one into my computer SB live soundcard. That is, someone said I should use a preamp. I didn't have one, but a have an Alesis microverb 3 I bought for $30. It seems to work fine as a preamp.

The whole thing sounds fine. In fact, I am not sure if the result isn't better than what I get through my Fender Twin Reverb.

Am I completely crazy? Like everyone else here I can spend hours adjusting the effects trying to get the right sound, often without satisfaction. So it is not that I am happy to play with whatever is at hand.

alesis microverb

sounds like you over paid for that (i got mine for twenty and a micro enhancer for twenty as well) iwould sure like to get my hands on the rack mount thing for the micro line its a really good line of effects 1/3 rack space genius.
if it sounds good do it (hey thats good advice anyway you slice it ) i have a korg bass ax1 that i use with a 5 string bass that i bought for 59 bucks that i would reccomend to anyone and going thru my microverb the tone is allright.

bongolation,

americanmusical.com but apparently it was the only one. Something about damaged packaging but was perfect when received. There's always one on ebay for $275 & up.
