line outputs....what for?!

hey all, i have a mackie onyx 400f, and i have a question about the line out's.

on this pic, it shows the line outs on the back. what can i use them for?

I assume you can route anything you want to them?

I have a firestudio and you can route a stereo mix, for say monitors, or you could send individual instruments out. I use it that way to hook into an HP60 headphone mixer.

Yes, you can send audio out to different monitors.
Or a multiple-headphone amp.

Or you can send audio out to effects units to be processed and then re-recorded back onto new tracks.

hey thanks, but how would i patch the output of the effects back in? I had a guy ask me about this at work and i was stumped.

Just go back into one of the line ins.
