hi on the tascam dp24 on the back you have line or guitar switch. I want to record a drum track from a keyboard and play a bass guitar at the same time. which setting should the switch be in / line or guitar???

Which ever one gives you the best recording level. Likely, the line level.

I'm not sure exactly how you're hooking things up. Presumably, you're not plugging both a bass and a keyboard into a single jack. I believe (without being quite certain) that that unit has a number of standard-issue mic/line inputs, and another input that has a line/guitar switch. Assuming I've got that right, and that you want to connect the keyboard to one (or more likely two) inputs, and a non-active bass directly to another input, do this:
- connect the L and R outputs from the keyboard to two ordinary Mic/Line jacks.
- plug the bass into the jack that has the Line/Guitar switch and put it in the "Guitar" position.

As an aside: it's more a matter of impedance than level, I think.

I dont know if that would work. I can only come from the headphone out jack on the keyboard and split it into two to go into the dp 24 to get stereo drums so it would have to go to line or guitar setting on back of dp 24 but if it goes to line how can I play a bass guitar with that setting? the bass has to go on guitar setting.

Do what you're doing with the keyboard: split the headphone jack with an insert (aka "stereo splitter") cable and plug those two into ordinary mic / line inputs. Not ideal, but should work okay.

Plug the bass into the jack that can be switched between line and guitar, and switch it to guitar. Unless I'm completely confused about how that box works (which is entirely possible), the switch affects only that one input.
