Line Level Preamp

with all the talk about mic pres, no one seems to address the issue of line level pres, specifically the ones found in mixers. is there a big difference? If i get a behringer mixer (please dont flame me) to control something like verb returns or monitor level, how would it compare to something like a mackie or sound craft?

Im slightly confused....line level sources dont need preamps....do u mean using a mixer just for routing capability and not for the preamps?.....

well when i say pre, i guess i am talking about the circuitry involved in getting the signal from the input to the output...when a line signal is run into a mixer, the same thing happens as with a mic, only to a lesser degree...the signal is still amplified by transistors( or ICs), capicitors, resistors, etc. so the design of those circuits theroreticaly influences the sound of the signal...but to what effect? it doesnt seem to get talked about
