Greetings to all...

I have a problem with using the 1/8" line in that I can only assume others have had as well...

When plugging into the line in on not 1.. but 3 different soundcards.. in 3 different PC's.. using 3 different adapters or cables...I only get a signal on the left side.

Yes, I am using a stereo 1/8" input jack

If I partially insert the plug I can get it to make contact with both left and right.

Nothing is interfering with the different plugs in the different machines..

ok.. so I got 2 and a half questions...

1 - Has anyone esle had this problem?

1.5 - What did you do to solve it?

2 - WTF !!!!

Ok... so if anyone isnt totally confused by the question and understands and can help with the problem I would very much appreciate it... otherwise I guess I'll just change my name to "Lefty" and start a new kinda thing.. where all my music is in mono... and only heard thru one channel.

What cable are u using? It should be a CD player type that goes from stereo (TRS) to 2 RCA or 2 mono (TS) 1/4"

What is your sound source? It will have to be stereo also

Is the source a stereo source, or a mono source?

If its a stereo source to need to make sure you are using a stereo jack. A stereo jack with have 2 lines in it as opposed to one. The tip sends the left signal, the ring (middle bit), sends the right signal, and the sleeve (bottom) is the earth or ground).

If you are using a mono cable, it only has the tip and the sleeve. So you only get the left signal. If the source is mono, like for example an instument (guitar/bass/microphone/whatever) and you are using a mono cable, then this is normal, and it doesn't matter as you will only be recording that in mono and then panning it where you want it in a stereo mix. For example most of what I record is recorded in mono, cos its like guitars and bass and stuff. But my mix is obviously stereo, so I just pan everything where I want it eg leave the bass in the centre, pan some guitars left and right, cymbal to the left etc etc.

Sorry if I'm oversimplifying a bit :)

I have tried 3 different TRS plugs/adapters... into 3 different sound cards.. all with the same results.

I am running out of a stereo mixer. Y cable L/R 2)1/4" Mono to 1) 1/8" Stereo.. like I said I tried 3 cables.. all the same results... when I pull the plug out a little I can get a signal on both channels.. its as if none of the TRS plugs are the right size... which is pretty hard to believe.. seeing as they are all 3 from different makers...

Funny thing is I know it used to work.... I got of PC based recording a few years ago when my band was on the road.. and put away all the cables I was using.. I recently put together a new machine for just this purpose.. and well.. now.. "it dont not work"....

Ok... well that sure is funny... NOT (im old skool)

Thanks for all the reply's to my problem. I did just resolve it however... the problem was... the TRS plug.. hard as it is too believe.. 3 different adapters.. by three different manufacturers.. all bad.. or something?? In other words a fourth plug.. worked.

thanks again
