I just thought I'd post a link to a Swedish microphone manufacturer that's up and coming. They have gotten great reviews and approaches mic building somewhat differentely; they use multiple small membrans in their mics to create a mixture of the SD and LD advantages. Also, they have a Quadraphonic mic with a total of 12 membrans and 4 XLR out which makes it possible to record in sorround and choose between M/S, X/Y, blumlein etc at mixdown AFTER you have recorded...

No, I don't work at this place, but I thought some of you might be interested. It would be very cool if Harvey where to get his hands on the Quadraphonic mic for a test....

10 SEK = 1 USD

LOL. I get a kick out of this one on their homepage:

"Designing and manufacturing professional audio equipment since 1989"

Wow, that's quite a history and heritage of making some seriously weird mics. :) I should apply to become a plant for these guys. :) That's some cool stuff, when you think about it.

Here's a slogan idea I have for them: "Record. Then point."

Or how about: "Got Membranes?"

Serisously, I think the quadraphonic mic is worth it's price just for it's educational value. The ability to choose between all known mono and stereo pickuppatterns and anything in between after you actually recorded the source makes you able to understand the differences better. You will know which configuration works best in what situation, and this will make improvement when using other mics too.

I have a faint memory of Harvey commenting on these mics earlier. But I can't seem to find the thread.

Seriously though.....

I am surprised that no one here has tried any of these......I mean for all the crap some folks (including myself) have tried, you'd think one of us would have bought one.

I've considered it, actually. I mean the prices are nice....right in there with all the other budget stuff....some even cheaper.

It's tempting....tha quad thing sure is interesting too,
