Does a Line-6 Guitar Port 'override' a computers soundcard? and if so would an M-Audiophile PCI soundcard produce better quality recordings?

the guitar port does not override your sound card because the guitar port is not a sound card.it just runs through it
in the sound menu in the control pannel make sure your original sound card is on your pefered device.
the guitar port should show up as another recording device in your recording software.

wether the M-Audiophile would produce better quality recordings ....hmm

not too shure of that depends on what card you have in now and that the sound is created within the software so it might be as good as it gets.

Wrong! The Guitarport IS a soundcard. The Audiophile has a much better sound quality so it's best to use the Guitarport strictly as an amp modeler.

sorry duff info i stand corrected it was that the guitar port plugs into you soundcard that confused me that made me think it was the soundcard doing the software conversions and that the guitar port was some kind of compressor or di box making the signal easier for the computer.

sorry my bag

was that a gun going off and my foot exploding !!!

i think so

...and what kind of computer you have. Make sure your computer is fast and powerful enough to handle your interfaces... that's what's going to give you your choppy sounds and distortions if you're running the interface off a 1960's computer, you know? But sometimes it's also not going to run as smooth and clean on newer, faster, and better computers if you have a ton of shit on it like movies and thousands of songs and your Memory isn't that high or your disk space is all taken up!
