Line 6 Flextone for $249 GC sale? YEA or NAY?

from the posts I read Line 6 is licking ass with amplifiers= NAY, possibly poorly built with poor reliability.

from other reviews its 9 of 10?? YEA vote....

help!! I almost bought one today...anyone have experience with Line 6 amps or especially the Flextone?

seems $249 is a killer price, but I can't afford junk...me pobo:p

Here's the deal, musiciansfriend filters the reviews and most people who review it own it and very few people that spend money on something like an amp are going to get on and admit they wasted their money. I think it make a decent practice amp and that's about it.

I say nay

its enough money worth saving towards a tube amp. you'll be happy you didn't.

Adam

thanks... for the quick response, I almost pulled the trigger.

the reliability thing was a "red flag" per the few posts I could find here, I think Travis posted 2 of his burnt out and blew up, and several others didn't make it sound like the new Line 6's were built too well. Come to think of it there were several of the Line 6 heads traded in, the black ones with silver knobs.(thats kind of a red flag too, seeing several same units traded in...or they sell a shit load of them?).

They do pass the quick store test, imo, and sounded pretty damn good and user friendly and had a nice cosmetic appeal, imo.
I do like the 1950ish style of the Flextone.

Anyway, already having a POD "bean" for DI recording (and its been great), maybe a Flextone would be a waste...damn inticing deal though, their normally $399 and all over the internet $599?

this was a 75watt with single 12"...$249 July 4th sale.
I called GC corporate to ask for more time and they said it must have been a Dealer Deal, local thing as the corporate didn't have the Flextone listed as a sale item?

...the floor sales dewd said there was only 2qty available.

maybe they were returns? refurbs? something seems "off" now that I think about it. Only 2 qty for 1/2 price and it was a local deal only, not corporate GC sale? hmmm:rolleyes:

my bet is that those amps are refurbs. line 6 amps definitely aren't the most reliable in my experience. maybe you could have flipped it for a profit though?

Ive used those at my local guitar center..i liked the possibilities of tones and stuff, but if your after a better sound...i'd agree with these guys and save for a tube amp.

Save your money. You would have to tape a quarter to that P.O.S. before
it would be worth throwing into a dumpster.(Or pulling out of said dumpster)
Just my .02, I dont think they suck or anything:rolleyes:

If you already have a POD I don't see the point. You could take your POD and run it thru any SS amp and have the same thing. If you didn't have anything at all it might be worth it but basically if you buy one you'll have TWO pods .... one of which doesn't have as many models.

maybe just my opinion or preference but i think a miked modeler sounds crap loads better than a di modeler. line 6 amps do crap out easy though. i've heard that those little vox valvetronix amps are just as unreliable. save for the real deal.

All right thanks for all the negative responses on this amp!!

THATS IT THEN!!!!
I'M GOING TO GO BUY THE FLEXTONE!!!

I won't turn it up past 1 so it should last awhile!!

Also with the money I save on this sale, I can also buy
A FIRE EXTINGUISHER for when it catches on fire!!!

THANKS!! THANKS!!
:)

:p

Lt. Bob said it best....why spend the money for "another" modeler?
Good point well taken. yes, I have a POD for DI, and a SS amp, +POD,
for a Modeler/mic'd type setup...
so what is the point of buying another modeler amp?

good point...whats the point?

I have a POD and a SS amp.

Ok.thanks gang...I probably saved myself some gasoline
from taking it back.

What do you get when you combine a POD and SS amp?

POS...ahahahaaa

hmmm...just joking, play on words..er acronyms.

i figured the tube heads would find it funny, I thought it was funny..even though thats the setup I have?

seriously,
I played this a bit and the gear addiction for the modeler amp is gone.

the weber kits looked good, but their getting in the $400-800 range from what I saw. 10% sale going down so maybe $360 range entry level?

If money is tight you might want to give Doberman a look.

It's head only but used speaker cabs can be found for cheap.

you have $250 (apparently). sell the pod and save a bit more. get ye self a real amp and be happy.

as enticing and interesting as it sounds, and possibly really fun to build....

I just put a call out on a used $285 Fender Blues Jr...
and a offer for $150 on a used Epi Valve Jr with Epi cab. (I did notice the EPi'V jr went up some.) Craigslist.com

Of course I've seen so many bad built Blues Jr's lately, I have to be able to test it out before buying. Knobs crackling, jacks don't work, sagging front grill cloth and these are brand new ones...what the fhks going on?

The line 6 is still cool looking and the concept is alright, too bad its build quality sucks so bad, but anyway the sales over and its back to $400.
I did play thru the POD + Solid State and its alright, but it ain't doin it for me.
May be the guitar and amp aren't complimentary? I don't know. Its alright, I'll give this setup a 4 with 10 being BEST.

the one that really was "plug and turn a knob" ,and frkn made me depressed it was so good, was this Mesa Boogie and a Strat!!"...damn it was nice.
depressing that it was so frkn good and high priced it'll never happen most likely.
frkn nice tho, so simple and beautiful sounds...and all i had to do was plug the chord in and turn knobs...doesn't get much better than that!

the gear isn't supposed to get in the way, imo.

if you head over to gearslutz.com and look in the guitar forum youll notice a pro jr vs. blues jr thread. in that thread there is a mod where you clip a couple wires and a few other simple things which turns the jr into a beast. you might wanna check that out.

make it happen. you know what you want. save a little here, work some overtime, sell some stuff, flip some stuff, buy used. make it a priority and you will get it.

out of all the amps i've owned, including line6 stuff, i was least impressed with the blues jr. sound. my ears and my style though.

Try out some of the cheaper low watt Tube amps out there :)
