Is there a way I can directly record from this amp to the soundcard?

I know theres a thread like this, but I know there are AX2 users who would hopefully be attracted by this thread.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all very much in advance!

The AX2 has a headphone output that can be used as ahi Z direct output.

Does the AX2 have pre outs? If it does then you won't have a prob.
Line 6 amps sound great but the designers really shafted consumers. For example, the Flextone 2 is about $75 to $100 cheaper than the plus. For the extra money you get an additional 50 watts (only for an external cabinet) and the freaking line out. I could understand the extra wattage, but a damn line out? Thats just highway robbery.
BTW, the floorboard which lets you acess all the amps effects is $250. If you don't buy it then you get all the sounds.

Freaking thiefs!

No sorry, I meant presets. Of course you can get all the sounds EXCEPT wah. Without the floorboard you don't have acess to all the presets.

BTW, you can beg for my pardon anytime man. ;) :D

Anyone know if there is a cheaper alternative to that $250 foot pedal? I've been looking at the line 6 spider (~$400), but that extra cost for the pedal just kills me.

back to the original question...

yes you can connect the stereo line out of the AX2 to the line in of your computer soundcard. all you need is a cable with the right connectors to go from the 1/4" stereo out to whatever's on the soundcard.

just keep in mind that the quality of the line out signal is not typically as good as what you hear through the amp's speakers. In other words, the speaker emulator on that amp sucks. (I have one to know, and many owners have bitched about this on the Line6 forum.) If you don't believe me just plug a headphone in and listen for yourself. For this reason most people who record from their AX2's choose to mic the amp. To do that you simply need a preamp between the mic and computer soundcard.

if you don't already use it, check out the discussion boards at line6.com. plenty of die-hard experts there will help you out with this amp. from the home page go under channel6, then bulletin boards, then register yourself and you'll be all set.

pchorman, I agree completely. When I record mine I ALWAYS put a mic in front of it, usually a AT-4033 or two.

they have a smaller switch pedal for around $45 but its redundant since it only lets you access four presets. (same as the front panel)
Even on their new Vetta combo ($1,600) you have to buy the FBX foot controler ($400) IF you want dedicated channel switches, dedicated effects on/off switches, a large name display, wah and volume peals and easy access to chromatic tuner and tap tempo.

I love my line 6 and it sounds freakin awesome, just make sure you take a tube of KY jelly so it won't hurt as much when they shaft you.
