I LOVE the guitar lead in this tune. It's one of my favorites in all of my works. Technically, it's not difficult ... but it just "fits".

The guitarist is Mr. Mark Crumb.

Like You Do

It's a song about addiction ... doesn't matter to what ...

Mostly pretty good. Good performances as usual.

Lead vocals need to come up quite a bit - maybe 2-3 dbs.

Weirdness on the word "cut" at :25.

Some of the guitars are a just little bit crispy. Especially the "leadish" one playing the riff on the left.

Still trying to decide if I like the vocal effect at :51.

Like the vocals at 1:47. They sounded great.

Liked the drum sounds too.

The song structure is great. Lots of change of pace, kept me interested. The vocal effect (tremolo?) on "Nobody moves me quite like you" I'm not sold on. To me that's the weak point in the song. I love the background vocals, especially in the chorus. Those sound great. There are lots of interesting synth tones which I really like. Pretty darn good stuff.

i like this song. everything's in it's right place for me...

"no one uses me like you" - cool delivery

Guitars sound awesome. Great mixing of different tones with just the right amount effects to keep it interesting.

+1 with the others on the vocal effect...as you've kind of got the tremelo thing going on with one of the guitars as is...the guitars sounded a little bright on my cheapos..

but apart from those small details this is a win....great separation, lots of great stuff going on...I only wish I could make one of my tunes half as interesting as this...nice outro too

Ha ... folks ... if Trip takes the time to comment on your stuff, listen closely because he is the forensic microscope of sound.

Thanks bud!

Sting's "Fields of Gold" ... was the arrangement/writing inspiration on this. In this, the first verse is one thing ... the next verse another ... then the third was an overlay on the first. Sting took two separate and distinct verse melodies and then combined them into the third in his song ... so it's different, yet this was inspired by what he did.

Then I added my own twists. :)

The lyric actually is "No one moves me like you do." ... but where were you when I was writing this? Your lyric is WAY better. I wish I'd thought of that.

Serious.

... the outro was sort of a mistake.

I'd originally had it stop quietly after the last chorus ... ending in almost only a whisper solo vocal fashion admitting "No one moves me like you do." ... thinking that the "tired addict" approach would serve song meaning better.

But ...

I'd done this on a scratch basis w/ others, and everyone sort of instinctively kept playing an outro ... just like what follows the first chorus.

So, I began playing the tune accordingly to compensate w/ the band that didn't know where this was going but almost universally wanted to take the piece further.

As the song evolved through "public comment", I'd added that part to the song and incorporated it into the final recording.

:)

i love those outros that make you think you are wandering into another part of the song...cool stuff :)

Splendid....as usual!;)
I like the tremolo part, gives the song dynamic and color. Drums sound excellent, guitar work majestic. But the song in itself is the substance. And the vocal delivery tops it all off. Nothing to say except...wonderful!

My LOVE of playing with others is that you learn stuff you never would have thought of on your own.

It's where magic happens.

Although the lead (and the verse rhythm git) is my friend Mark ... who passed from a massive stroke a couple years ago ... that tremolo git part is me.

I waded through literally hundreds of sounds to define one that had the sonic impression I was going for in this tune. So ... no matter what anyone says about it ... it was EXACTLY what I chose.

I'm SO glad you had the good sense to agree. :)

Thanks J!

Love all the rich sonic textures. Lots going on, but everything is in its own space. Cool. I would like to hear the vocals a little louder. I thought the ride cymbal was kind of wimpy; perhaps bring the mid-freqs out a little more to add meat.

But, seriously, this is all nitpicking. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing with us!!!!

Damn, that sounds really good man. After several listens, I wish I had more to offer than what has already been said, but...

It's my favorite song today? :)

No shit, that's great.

BTW, sorry about your friend Mark.

That was such a nice thing to say, thank you. If I knew how to give you rep power, I would.

You cheered my mood after a grinding day.

Thanks!

I don't like the vocals. The parts around 1:50 are good, but whatever the effect is on the rest sounds bad. I'd say boost the vocals some, but not unless you take whatever that warbly effect is off. The rest of the instrumentation sounds fine.

.................wow.

Nothing I can add, really. I like the song - The trem vocal doesn't kill it, but I'm not sure that it adds anything either.

This one has a big sound to be sure. Dynamic and well balanced.

What is that george harrison-like guitar riff effect at the beginning? I've heard variations of it all my life but never knew what it was...makes the guitar sound a bit like a distorted hammond organ...kind of like Badge by Cream or any number of other late '60's / early '70's tunes.

Your vocals in the main sections sound great on this...reminds me a bit of Bowie for some reason. Love the way it jumps right in with the acoustic alone for just a sec then that cool electric guitar. Perfect.

This is undoubtably my favorite of yours so far both aesthetically and from a technical standpoint. Most excellent :).

I like the guitar bed the song swims in... Snare could be a bit more defined. It doesn't pop as much as it could. The hi-hat through the chorus (not sure if it's the chorus, but the part where it's just the hats) really sticks out. Could be lower in the mix.

The electric guitar solo stood out a bit much, IMO.

Nice vocal harmonies... Nicely done. Liked those a lot.

It seems like this song could use an overall compression.. The song seems discombobulated at parts. It seems like it could benefit from meshing into a single sonic picture a bit better.

Lots of effects on guitars 'n' stuff... Lots going on. Maybe that's the problem of it being a bit disjointed... Gotta get the sounds to gel a bit more. In my experience, well configured compression can get you that.

Not too shabby. Musicianship is great, production is good, and the song structure is pretty well done.

Nice job.
