it seems to me ad conversion is best done outside the pc box. though limited to 2channels for input, how about using the mx550 with a suitable pre as the adc (if a digital input card on the pc was available, skipping the sound card entirely)and it would then be available for other uses. how would it compare with an apogee mini-me or LynxTwo to start in terms of the quality of adda conversion
that will save me some money (or cost me some money) but either way thanks.
my teenaged son spends all his time and HIS money on his les paul guitar and rock'n'roll band. they purchased together a foxtex vf160 standalone with an adat output (didn't ask me)
I have an asus a7n8x, 2600 barton, 80g ide and 160g sata, dual boot systemwith a frontier adat pci card from ebay that can sample only at 48khz link- http://www.frontierdesign.com/products/wavecenterpcispec.html
WIth that he hopes to transfer his rehearsals to cool edit or N-tracks and start to learn about recording.
Now I'm don't play (other than the piano) but like to listen to well recorded music. I would like to support him with with a reasonable quality pre and ad converter that he could grow and learn with. I've considering the apogee mini-me. I'm not sure two channels is enough and the current alternative would be the aardvark Q10. appreciate any input. thanks
