Leveling vs. limiting amplifier questions.

Excuse my newbiness, but what exactly is the difference between a limiting amplifier and a leveling amplifier?

What are a few examples of when one might be used over the other? Are they ever used simultaneously in the same signal path?

I believe 'leveling amplifier' is just an old school way of saying limiter.

There are also types of contol that might get tagged with names similar to that. Aphex calls one the Compellor or some such.

You can often end up with various blends of Peak Limiting and slower gain riding compression on a project.
