I know that there will have been one or two threads on snares before but I'm interested in old and weird snares . You know the thing strange mechinisims ,hoops ,shells and what they sound like and where they came from. any takers

I own an OCDP snare (I did their website a few years ago and was paid in snare); 5" x 14" with four 2" vents. The snare is loud loud loud. It cuts and projects like nothing else. It's also quite sensitive, almost like it needs less compression. Ghost notes are very audible and rim shots are almost piercing. It's a unique snare that would probably just not work in a lot of settings, but for loud live music, it works like a charm.

what about the brady's jarrah and wandoo wood? these are two of the hardest timbers in the world! aussie made, i can't think of anything cooler, as far as the engineering side of design goes, who can argue with the free-floating snare from pearl, where changing the shell from wood to brass is as easy as changing a head, not to mention the sound quality benefits
