I absolutely love the drum sound on Mudvayne's L.D. 50. A good example is on the intro to "death Blooms" Theyre just so punchy and clean.

Anyway, I know a lot of people here can listen to a song and go, "ah they must be using a compressor with settings of ______________ on the snare, oh I hear a lot of 5khz in the cymbals..." etc.

So I was wondering if anyone might be up for a challenge and might want to listen to a song or two off of Mudvayne's L.D. 50 album and try to do some detective work and figure out some tuning techniques/mixing techniques the engineer(s) may have used on the drums. I can't provide a sample because that would probably be against the law but you can probably hear audio samples at cdnow.com maybe. I just want to get as close as possible to a similar drum sound with what I have.

Mudvayne drumsound

Nice drumset, and nicely tuned...properly tuned. I think that drum sound kicks ass as well. I don't know how exactly they achieved it but you could get that exact kick sound by using a trigger module. I believe they trigger the bass drum anyway, but the toms and snare i think are the real deal.
