Lets Do Something New #3

Chris Shaeffer and I have been talking about trying one with the line,
'Hanging By A Thread'
so here it is.
Same basic outline as Henri's LDSN threads.
Any structure, any way you wish to use the line.
We don't want any miss muffet songs. :D

I've been as busy as a manged dog with a case of fleas in the heat of summer and both back legs broke, these past couple weeks.
Haven't done much work on my own stuff much less the other people I've been helping.
Just want to let everyone know I ain't run off and fergot ya. Things are slowin' down around here so I'll be back on track.
Skagway is nice this time of year.....

Anyone game for this line?

Haning By A Thread.

As I surfed the USA
Dragon's place showed up my way
I smiled and thougt-I never knew
that this was home - no not a clue

Harvey's god and Bears are blue
in Dragon's land (and Alan's too?)
I used to think my studio was ok
But Behringer's not the sound & safe way

I'm hanging by a thread (at hr.com)
Should play guitar instead
I wonder why - you know
So how come I'm not feeling low

Bridge:
I'm Living by the screen
Or am I living at all?
Do you know what I mean?
Hold my thread when I fall

So my wife got brand new monitors for our anniversary
And my son a Neumann as a birthday gift
And my daugthers horse is traded in for a "Flying cow" you see
That change gave my sound a very needed lift

I'm hanging by a thread (at hr.com)
I'm feeling so mislead
I used to have a life
Has anyone seen my wife?

hanging by a thread
is not a bad place to be
if it gives you the time
to be, to see

hanging by a thread
is like hanging in a tree
little bit of altitude
little bit of free

chorus: I followed the thread
I followed it good
So why am I here
In the heart of the wood

course, some might object
complain about the pain
complain about the dangling
up there again

but I wouldn't want to blame them
and even if I did
hanging by a thread
reveals what has been hid

chorus: I followed the thread...

outro: sutra sutra sutra sutra sutra sutra sutra sutra etc

Ok, heres the chorus.....

Well Im hanging by a thread
And Im holding on so tight
How could I let go
Ive got to keep up the fight
I know Ive done wrong
And now Im down on my knees
If you could forgive
If you could just hear my plees
Youve always been whats held me together
Ive tried to follow the path that youve lead
As i look up i see your hand
Holding on to the thread

Nice story line in your lyrics, Beltrom. It wasn't till after the bridge that I guessed where you were heading.
I'm guessing that the paragraph after the bridge is the chorus being as it doesn't fit with the other verses. Correct me if I'm wrong.
If you have some music with it I'd like to hear it.

Hey dobro. That ending is unique. Sutra. What is that, anyway? I've seen you use it before. I always thought it was a Hindu chant or something.
Your lyrics are quite, revealing. :)

Cool last line, Gidge. Support.

I dinked around with my song for about 45 minutes today, then was called away. I have two verses and an outline for a chorus. As soon as I get if done, I'll post it and a rough mp3 of it.

BG , Chris..Cool line "Hanging by a Thread"...I gotta give this some time to marinade in the noggin..This is gonna be fun!Must go to "real work" now, dammit being a adult is a drag..Be back soon

Don

So far I've got three verses, no bridge nor chorus. A standard blues rock. I've played it with a long solo and I'm kinda happy with it as it is. I feel, as always, that it could use a bit of life and pumping.
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Like, do you think it needs a chorus?
Another verse?

I tried to come full circle with it, problem, answer, cure (left to the listeners imagination).

Hangin' By A Thread.

I’m going down to the river and wash away my blues.

I’m going down to the river and wash away my blues.

You’ve got me hanging by a thread and I don’t know what to do.

I’m goin’ to them crossroads cuz I’ll be talkin’ to the man.

I’m going to them crossroads cuz I’ll be talkin’ to the man.

You’ve got me hanging by a thread and I’ll close this deal if I can.

(((((Solo)))))

I’m comin’ over to your place and show you what I can do.

You’ve got me hanging by a thread and I need to wash away my blues.

When I get the time I'll record it and post it.

Yup, liked the line. It's so open for interpretation and yet very clear.

It was a half-slow day at work so I took some minutes to put together the lines above. In the back of my head there was some kind of country-melody, which is quite unique. Never done country-music in my entire life (some would say I never have done music in my entire life).
I often just throw some lyrics down and then let the music and lyric fuse together by adapting them to each other. It's in that spirit you should read it. It's my kind of Gabrielish (Peter Gabriel often sings nonsensewords when making songs, he calls that Gabrielish)...

Actually the part that begins "I'm hanging by a thread" was meant to be the chorus. The stuff after the bridge was more meant to be a second format verse. But as I said, I never really know until the music comes along.

I'll see if I can put something together, but my studiotime is at a low right now.

This was fun. When i read all your lyrics I hear the melody and beat (especially yours Badgas - for obvious reasons). Now i got to download and listen to the songs and see if I hear them right.

Ahh, I see how your structure is Beltrom.
Yeah, this is fun. Henri Deville posted one about a year ago and we had some pretty good stuff come from it. He posted another a few weeks ago too.
Henri is the one who Chris and I got the idea from to do this again.

I'm working on a chorus on my song. I originally had a solo between the 2nd and 3rd verses and another at the end. I'm thinking of adding the chorus after those to verses and having a solo at the end. I like ending solos.

Well- I'm been away for quite a while, I suppose. Picked up a new hobby, moving to San Fran in a month, packing my stuff, and finishing up my job here...

Perfect time to write a new song!!! :D

(Hanging by a Thread)
Feels like a thousand feet up some rocky wall
It’s a long way down if you let go and fall
I’m not quite sure how I climbed so high
But the ground sinks fast when you aim for the sky

It’s a long way up and a long way down
It didn’t look so hard when I was standing on the ground
But step by step and hold by hold
I climbed quite a while before it got old

(Chorus)
And now I’m stuck here, not sure what to do
Hanging by a thread and enjoying the view

That's all I have so far. I figured I go ahead and post it as is because I need to get back to packing and probably won't get back to the song for a while. Need to read the other lyrics here though...

See you in a minute...
Chris

PRICELESS!!!!

This has got to be the title track to Homerec.Comp II!! :D

Y'all have got some mighty fine lyric writin' prowess.

Dobro, looks like you and I were taking the same track. Cool.

Gidge, neat way to wrap the line into a supportive message.

Badgas, nice tension and resolve. Seems like the structure of the bluesy tune itself will act as the chorus, no?

OK, back to (yawn) packing...

Take care,
Chris

Welcome back, Chris.
Hope it's nothing I done to make ya move. :D

When ya get situated, you'll have to tell us about your move and what your new career is.

Later m'friend.
