LesPaul volume knobs

I just replaced my volume and tone controls on my Les Paul. I took off the old ones (a pain in the ass considering I cracked 2 of them) and put on the new ones (even though I don't know that I got them all the way down).

My question is...

Are they supposed to be so damn hard to put on? I mean...I was pounding them with my palm trying to get them to go on.

On another note, I just took off almost all the black covers on my red wine studio and am swapping out with cream colored parts. It looks soooooo amazingly better that I cannot believe my eyes. Plus now I have gold volume and tone controls which just liven things up from the dull dreary looking black. When I finish getting all the pieces I will post a pic.
 
Well, they are not designed to be that tight, but the plastic continues to off-gas. When that happens, it shrinks, and they can get very tight. Stew-Mac sells a great tool for removing them, but that would be a bit of over kill for someone who is not a professional at this.

If the new ones are that tight, you MAY have one metric, and the other SAE.

Are you sure that your NEW are marked with "10" being the highest number?
Some are only marked to "9"
IF they are "9"s, then they will fit very tight.
A "10" knogb only fits a "10" shaft on the pot.

Hope this helps, but, I doubt it.

I don't get what you are talking about. The numbering goes from 1-10 if thats what you mean. They are the standard Gibson brand speed knobs just like I had on as stock...just gold instead of black.

But if you have the elusive knobs that go to 11, you are definitely going to notice an increase in your loudness.

True 'nuff. Also- if they are split-shaft pots did you line up the grooves on the pot with the grooves in the knob?

Don't forget the lube.

Oh my god dude!!! What in the hell happened to your les paul!? There are holes in between the pickups!! And there are no strings!!

Please don't tell me all this happened by way of switching out knobs....
 
I was going to ask how you like playing the new Elixir Invisible's. I'll bet you can sustain for days.
 
Actually there are no holes...well, unless you count a cigarette burn... :D

That is just the remains of a stupid sticker and a lot of attempts at removing the sticker that was there before that one. :eek:

...as is the same with almost the whole rest of the guitar. :o

I love it though. Its mine.

Just think of them as love scarrs if you will.


As much as I like to fix everything on my guitar myself, I am just going to give in and take it to a shop this weekend.
