I'm going to get this for my Christmas present. Anyone have one? Comments good or bad.

sure is a purdy guitar:)!!Bet you will dig it!Alas I don't own one or have played one :( ...Nice Xmas present :)

i played a couple either when i was going to get my les paul, or soon after i got it. i thought they were actually really cool. they have a laminated top though and although it doesn't really bother me, i think that that it will affect the resale value of the guitar.

they are awesome looking. and sound good. i don't understand why gibson chose a laminated top though and my friend/the salesman didn't know why it was laminated rather than solid.

The body is chambered. Maybe that's why?

i have no idea on how they do compare price-wise to the LP-Premium Plus ... but i know for sure those are solid tops.

If Re-sell value is a variable for you you might consider those as well

best regards
alfred

pd: there are few guitars nicer than a great figured LP-top ...

i think that was most likely one of the reasons. i think it's got more to do with manufacturing price though. it has 2 pieces of maple on it rather than just 1 like other pauls.

my reason for believing the reason is price is gibson makes chambered les pauls with solid tops in the custom shop.

you know that all the american shop les pauls are weight chambered?.........well except for the supreme which is tone chambered.

actually i think gibson calls it "weight relieved"

All the carved top Les Pauls have laminated tops. It just means that the top is glued to the body. They also almost all have two piece tops (these days, they all have two piece tops). Maple tops, laminated to a Mahogany body.

oh and also.........i hope this isn't percieved as spam.........i have nothing to do with this company.

music machine in kennewick, washington is having a pretty big sale on gibson stuff right now. http://guitarsale.com/frontend/Category.aspx?CategoryID=86

that's the link to their supremes........the prices on there aren't the selling prices right now. you'll have to call them, but i think the price will be a couple hundred cheaper than the normal selling price.

i just bought a stinger series cs356 with a special color and a 59 instead of 60's neck for just under 3 grand........it was their last one and i was quoted like 3200 as a discounted price about a month before the sale.

i'm just saying that you might want to check them out.........or maybe not i dunno......that's a lot of money to spend on a guitar having never played it.

but i know they sell really expensive guitars to people all over the world,s o maybe that's not that much money to spend on a guitar having never played it. they've actually had people fly in from japan and a couple other countries to see guitars.

i guess i have an advantage since i live here.

if you were interested in buying from there, this might be a weird idea, but i could go in and compare all of them with my friend that works there and pick the best one if you wanted.

ok i used the wrong wording.........ply wood tops. i just didn't want to make the guitar sound cheap and i think calling it ply wood makes it sound cheap.

it's not a cheap guitar.....well not in my opinion.........i think it's a pretty badass guitar.

edit: and i was referring to the top and the back as 2 pieces......i know they're bookmatched, but i tend to think of that as once piece.

i really have to word things better.
