I've been somewhat frustrated with most experiences getting my tape machine and other items repaired. I REALLY want to learn how to do it myself, and maybe even take over the trade as a career. Anyone out there have good leads for how to get started? I want to start with Tascam cassette machines, namely the 488 and 688 for now. I have been boning up on basic electronics, but does anyone know of any books, schools, other material out there for learning the specifics? Or is it mostly a matter of apprenticing with an established technician? I'm sure I'm not the first guy around this forum who has considered learning to fix his gear himself!
