Hi guys ..

does anyone know some free websites where to get sheetmusic for piano
I'm not talking about those simplified jumping jack flash arranged for keybord sheets ..
I just wanted to take the pragmatic route in learning bit of piano
by studying songs I actually like instead of crap like au claire de la lune and when the saints go marching in .... :)

I was thinking in the lines of : on U2's october / coldplay's scientist etc.. (I allready found some sweet sheets )
sisters of mercy's 1959 (I think you can catch my drift, real piano recordings)

I can read notes (well used to and want to get back on the tracks fast :) ) so piano tabs are not necesary
 
As far as I know is sheet music also protected by copyright,
so basically: Free website + sheet music = illegal.
In other words: You'll have a hard time finding any.
 
Two other ways that may or may not interest you.

1) There's lot of software (many sequencers f.e) that can turn midifiles inte scores.
2) There's teaching software from f.e. Adventus, Voyetra and Magix that can import midifiles, turn it into scores and then check how well you play it and where the problemspots are. I've improved my sightreading skills a lot the last months since getting Adventus Piano Suite. Be warned however that even though that is a good piece of software that I've had good use of it's sadly bug-infested.

working the other way around havent thought about that :)

you could say that 10 years ago I was "in the zone"
regarding sight reading .. but then I stopped playing classical and started in a rockband playing my own stuff ...
guess what 2 years down the line I couldnt sightread a simple melody anymore .. reading notes requires practise and maintanance .. coz I had the bad habbit to use finger memory instead of reading the notes ...

shure as hell pissed off my teacher when she found out :)

what can I say she looked cute when she was mad untill she started slapping me with a ruler on my thumb when I raised it above the neck in "rock style" :)
 
With that amount of experience you should be able to pick out just about any pop tune by ear.

Whaddya need sheet music for???
 
for a number of reasons ..

1 Coz i've been out of the loop for more than 6 years ...
2 its kinda cool if ur able to actually play almost anything they shove under ur nose just by reading it from a paper
and 3 becoz I dont have any piano experience
let alone being capable of capturing someone elses piano playing by ear ... (being a guitarist and all :) )
 
damn forgot the 4th and most important reason

because I'm lazy as hell :)
