OK HERES THE DEAL MY LEADSINGER WANTS TO RECORD STRAIGHT THROUGH THE PA NOW I SAY GO THROUGH THE 4 TRACK. COULD YOU PLEASE SEND ME SOME RECORDING TECHNIQUS (excuse the spelling its late) for picking up the pa and which way is beter going through the 4 track or the pa

Are you saying that the guy wants you to mic the PA? If that's the case, tell your friend he's a moron and leave the recording side of things to you.

You could run an output of the four track to the PA and let him hear it that way, but you wouldn't want to do that because the mic would pick up the PA...not what you want.

How many people are in the band? If it is just one guitar, one vocal, bass, and drums, the I would dedicate a track to each of them (you would have to sub-group the drums).

If your band is more than that, I would place two mics in the room to pick up the live PA sound and stage volume; seperate them for stereo. If your PA is set up for stereo, I would use the other two tracks to capture the stereo main mix off the PA board, or if it is mono, then just use one track from the main mix of the PA board.

In either case, play a song through your setup and play it back and make adjustments to your stereo mics. Rpeate until you zare satisfied with what goes to tape then record the rest of your songs.

Lead singers are annoying sometimes. Guess we just have to bare(bear?) with them.

CMiller is right, micing the PA or even using the PA for monitoring isn't good.

Make the singer sing into the 4 track.
