Rock Steady
Here`s a new mix if anybody has time to check it out. I`m still working at spatial stuff and envelopes, but I think maybe getting a little closer to what I`m after... hope I did good by the "ears". I appreciate you guys. Its just a quick idea but my real concern is the mix. Hopefully more and better coming.....
I left some velocity spikes in the solo synth, and its real cheesy sounding in a lot of spots. I got lazy after I got the B/K/S triad and rythym down, 'might wanna look past that one instrument..

p.s. Please remember I`m not a keyboard player too. I'm just pluggin along best I can till get one to play or do it myself better.

listening lo-fi and cans.....

Nice groove - its got good structure, - sounds simple but it draws you in.... it is deceiving...

The middle 8 section, at about 1:00 min, - I think the drums need something here, before the fill....the beat is too *straight*, needs some texture....

Always enjoy your songs...

Sounds classy. I like the groove a lot. Mix seems good to me. There doesn't seem to be anything fighting for the higher frequency space. You may want to take advantage of that and brighten it up a bit but It's cool like this also.

Joe

mcmd and smokepole, I appreciate it a lot. The top open space in the 2nd 8 I left open to stick a guitar or something. I threw that solo synth on the 1st 8 just to give an idea of some separation in the song sections. I played it in a hurry and it sux , 'would rather have a badass horn part there and then a guitar in section 2. But the main thing I was pushin on yall is the mix on the rythym section, trying to understand spatial placement a little more.
I`ll "wake" the drummer up some if I get a chance to take this one to a finish. :)

the other day you started a thread asking if someone could download a song so you could check if the whole thing uploaded correctly.. I did, and then you erased the thread..

your welcome..

Yep, I was at work and couldnt do a mp3 dl to see if it made it ok, so I asked if someone would please check it for me.
I left you a "Thank You" reply. I may have erased the thread a little too soon, before you had a chance to see it, if so I apologize.
It was just a skratch of a tune I uploaded for someone to download and work with, I really didn't want to keep the thread hanging

Yep, nice groove ya got goin there. You might want to do something to keep it from getting too monotonous though. Maybe some incidental percussion in spots like a triangle and/ or some latin sounding instruments. Take a listen to some Grover Washington Jr. or Joe Sample/Crusaders stuff for some ideas. They do a lot of this very same kind of thing.

Twist

Everything seems well executed and clean. The mix seems pretty good. There's a litte tom roll at about 1:13 that's a bit soft. Actually those toms are in the mix throughout. Maybe bring those up a nudge.

Trip...

Once again, great stuff man! There's a dude over in the fostex forum that posted a couple of tunes you might enjoy. Flat-9. I'd like to hear you two guys hook up.

bd :D

Sam, really I do sincerely appreciate your help dude. It kinda bothers me that I took the "Thank You" down so soon. anyways.. yu da man :)

Guern, How bout a Chaka wailing " I want yu-to.. Love-me like Fire...Burn-me in your Flames......." and so on, Damned good Idea, there`s some kickin Black girls that work at my job, as far as singing accapello goes. It`s on the list of things to do good man...I gots to find a reliable guitar player that can pick every now and then for fun, an just wants to hear come back at him good...

twist, thank you and glad you felt a groove. Your right, If I were producing it, it would have a fewww more subtle things in it, done to it. I just had to get it in down quick. I need to pull out ALL my Crusaders LP`s, especially The "...Wind" album. Mercy!!!!

Trip, Thank you for the nice comments on the tune. I struggle, but its all sincere. That event does need bringing up and some upper mid added to make it snap a little more, its bongos. :)

bdbdbuck, I can tell your one of the folks I do this kinda stuff for!!! :) I`ll check this guy out over in the forum. Man, if I can ever get the logistics worked out with one of my old guitar players and piano players from a blues band I worked a long time with,
You get a free cd with the complimentary fat tater..

I wrote words to one of your grooves a while back..remember?:D . So you know i'm a big fan. This cooks pretty nice Ken, find you a singer dude! Mix sounds really good to me.

'Mutual my friend. I appreciate you. sometimes I feel like i`m alone on another planet by myself in this 7x12 cubicle. My stuff gets a little off the listened path sometimes from little interaction with other players, other than listening to yalls stuff, but thats where I am right then. :) I`m gettin a little more confident, but a long ways to go yet..

You have a nice groove going with this. If I had the time, I'd offer to add some guitar. Definitely, you need some organic (real) instruments to embellish what you are doing. Even without that, what you have is solid. The music has a good feel and the mix is pretty decent too!

sounds good.. definitely screaming for solos.. it has a lot of room.. I'm not crazy about the high hat though.. good groove as usual! :D

Hey there K...sounds nice to me. I respect the way you go about the process...you don't really write songs so much as you build them, block by block.

I'm downloading this to see if any of my cheesy acoustic licks might work...it seemed like an open invitation on your site, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm sure you probably don't envision this with acoustic on it, but my electric tone sucks, lol.

Crawdad, thank you. your right, I left the 2nd movement open for something there, and at the resolve section there is a onesided-conversation going on with the moog. I left those open for alternate remarks by another instrument. The vision was a lonely caravan of a people, seen from distance in the night, making their exodus in order to live.

B.Sabbath, as usual and as always, thank you! I hope the clarity thing has cleared up, I feel better about it now :) I`ll research the highhat some more. dammit! :)

chrisharris; thanks, thats the way I have always worked with bands too, jamming then make the parts fit right! you are welcome to do anything you feel. Originaly I had thought of nylon, or a lute or something to give that desert equator zone feel, but i`m not a guitar player, I just fake rythymns.

ya'll, I forgot to check the mix on pc speakers, just mixed it on the big monitors, so you may not hear some of the stuff in it.

Another groovin' tune. I dig where your goin' with this.

I thought the drums were a bit hot in the upper bass.

If you want some electric riffs on top of this send me a PM, and I'll give it a shot.

Way deserving of another round thru the 1st page.Great Mix!!!!Snare sound bugs me...I like em a bit tighter, but the air is there.Ditto on the B.Sab solo deal....
