The tambourine sound seems to come in a little loud. The guitar sounds like it was recorded direct kinda. In the beginning there was a violin pizzicato to keep the beat and I thought it was a little loud. It seemed to get less loud later in the song(the thing counting 2 3 and 6 or 1 2 3 1 2 3 sorry if it doesnt make sense). The violins really sound beautiful. Really nice sounding. Must be fun to mix stuff like this.
I honestly feel bad even commenting on the mix. I dont feel worthy. This is better than anything ill ever be able to do. Very well done as always DavidK.

Another fantastic track David...Is this from "Nutcracker"?? Wonderful textures. I especially like what you've done from ~1:34 to~ 2:15 when the harmonization in the 2nd Violins/Violas
is so subtle, but strong enough to imply a bunch of interesting chord changes. Well done and the real violins keep the organic feel .
I hope that the new release will include some of the Grieg that you were experimenting with???

Its a synth. The only guitar is a few power chords, maybe 4 in the whole tune. The "clean" guitar is a Yamaha synth.

Good Stuff - invokes images of arabian style dancers, daggers and flying carpets.
The tanbourine is as loud as anything else in the mix - the strings or sitar for example. It's a percussion instrument that is not shy when you hit it. If it's not supposed to be a focal point maybe take it down a touch. I kind of like the way it draws my attention though....it has it's significance in the piece beat-wise.
You certainly have a lot of great sounds in those synths of yours....and you use them well
Those strings can't be beat - I always look forward to hearing those....
The only thing that came to mind when listening was that bass drum(?) on the left side - it made my headphone mix seem a little left heavy at times. It is being well separated in the mix though as it is currently placed.

and I think the tambourine should stay up where it is volume wise....

In our violin parts for the ballet, it says "Le Arabe". On the CD I will probably call it "Arabian".
The original doesnt sound much like this, it is way more classical. The only percussion in the original is that tambourine, and it is prominent. I will probably take it down a bit since there is so much other percussion. Oops, I just saw your other post, you must have heard the original.
I did the percussion almost two years ago. For some STUPID reason, I put it all on one stereo track.
At the time it seemed like a good idea. Now it doesnt. Good ears, its a lopsided mix. I may redo the whole percussion part. I am not looking forward to it. That "pizz" part that erockrazor was talking about is on there as well.

Le Arabe is so wrong for French grammar....I can see why Rami brought it up...You usually drop the e and add an apostrophe. The publisher would get an "F" for that from Miss Delorme my Grade School French Teacher
...and no she was not hot....

It was written by a Russian dude. Our parts are published by Kalmus, based in the french city of Miami Florida.

I can't really recall my music appreciation lessons from the 70's but isn't the tambourine representative of a dancer & there fore comes to the fore?
Mix wise my only comment is that often there's not much happening in the centre of the stereo image.

Yeah. I played the first violin part ten times, took a break, then played the second part 10 times. I am learning a few eq tips lately that are helping. In the past my string stuff sounded more "phasey" so I am finally getting a better sound.
I am a creature of habit. I am so used to orchestra, where things are left or right, that I forget the middle!

Dude, sounds fine to me. I know nothing about this stuff, so I can listen to the song as a whole instead of trying to hear snare whacks and bass definition. sounds great. Very big and powerful. The kiddos liked it too. They're dancing around like snake-charmers.

Very nice arrangement. Sweet tone on the violins. The trance-like feel of the low percussion was a good idea.
