I have few quick questions.

a/ LE 6 is compatible with win 8. But i didnt find info about LE 4 and LE 5 ?
b/ if i buy any hardware with LE4, can i upgrade to LE 5 or LE 6 ?
c/ i can buy Tascam US-122 MKII with CUBASE LE 4, Tascam US-200 with CUBASE LE 5, Tascam US-322 with CUBASE LE 6
or Steinberg UR22 with CUBASE AI, what to buy and why ?

I like Tascam US-122 MKII, but it has only LE4, and i have notebook with WIN 8. This is reason of my questions. thanks.

I am not sure. I haven't had the displeasure of working with W8 yet. I have a friend who used LE5 on a W8 laptop though. It did work.

Keep in mind that the LE and AI versions are quite limited. You also can't upgrade to another version of LE. AI comes with Steinberg interfaces and is a bit less limited. For example you can use the Instrument Rack with AI to use the multiple outs of a VSTi. Something that cannot be done with LE versions.

I would worry more about getting a decent interface and using LE or AI to decide if Cubase is right for you. Only you can make that determination. Then upgrade to a full version if you find it working for you.

DAW's are written to work for certain peoples brains. Everyone is different in the way they work with software. Reaper and me do not get along, but that does not mean the software is not worthy. Protools is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me, but it is still one of the best DAW's. Cubase for me is the 'just right' porridge.

thx man ;-)
I am really new in Cubase and i dont know diference between LE and AI. Can you say what would be better for me for begining ?

For explanation about me. I play guitar, rock, folk-rock, i want to create and record own music. I dont look for any special sounds or effects..i like e.g. Fleetwood Mac, J. Cash ..So i dont want create loops, hiphops or raps...I need record drums / so i need midi, i can program it / and then to record bass, guitars, voices ..so to build whole song. And then can my friends to hear it, and learn it.

thx for your answer .

I would say go with the UR22 and AI6 that comes with it. You will have drum samples in Halion Sonic as well as a VST Amp rack for guitar sounds right out of the box. Great for making demos.

LE4 has many stability issues from my experience. I would stay away from that for sure...

A: It probably is, but definitly not supported. Actually none of the LE versions are supported so if it doesn't work then...

B: The answer to this is yes. Used to be the trial for SE was also the LE version. I'm not really sure how you get this anymore but I'm sure the people who sold you the hardware can help. Should be info in the steinberg forums as well. Elements trial version 6 is also LE 6. It might be the same story with 7, actually probably is. I'll look right now and post here again in a bit if it is.

C: Don't base your decision on the free bundled software. Get as much interface as you can IMO. If you dig cubase you will end up upgrading anyway.

Yes just confirmed that the trial of cubase elements version 7 is also cubase LE.

Actually it's pretty brilliant, 30 days unrestricted to try to entice you to upgrade to elements. But after the 30 days that icon (at least on mac) just launches LE.
