When they were first out LCDs were DVI, then the newer and cheaper ones came out with VGA ports. My experience is that the picture quality is far superior with DVI. It's just like audio, the extra D/A/D conversion isn't helpful.
However, my studio LCD is VGA, since that allows me to use an old, fanless, small, quiet, cool VGA card. Really audio apps should not tax a video card, the exception being a dual monitor setup.
