When buying a monitor for a DAW, should I be concerned whether the LCD monitor is analog or digital, any significant drawbacks?

Bear - He probably means the connections. Some LCD's have DV or VGA or both.
Jase - Are you doing any video applications? If not, it doesn't make much of a difference. The more important thing IMO is having a video card with lots of its own RAM.

is it? i though all LCD's were generally DVI. Loptop screens have been digital for years i believe. Don't quote me on that but whenever i use an external source for a monitor on my laptop, i have to swithc from digital to analog mode.

Laptops, sure. The LCD monitor that came with my Dell desktop at home only has a VGA connection. But the Dell I use at work has an LCD with both DV and VGA connections.

what's the advantage of using DV or VGA? I would assume it would have somethign to do with being able to produce a higher resolution, but that is toally speculation.
The new apple LCD's (those 30 inch monsters) require dual DVI offered in the lateest Geforce cards.

When they were first out LCDs were DVI, then the newer and cheaper ones came out with VGA ports. My experience is that the picture quality is far superior with DVI. It's just like audio, the extra D/A/D conversion isn't helpful.
However, my studio LCD is VGA, since that allows me to use an old, fanless, small, quiet, cool VGA card. Really audio apps should not tax a video card, the exception being a dual monitor setup.

It doesn't matter if you're not into games or graphics. Analog will do just fine for any 2D application that's not graphic oriented.
