Alright, I've had this bad boy for about a month, but haven't been able to spend too much time with it. I'm just now making my first track and running into all kinds of problems. Hopefully someone can answer these questions for me, the manual is no help.

1. What mode do you create songs in? Pattern chain or song mode?

2. In pattern chain is it just me or is there a sync problem in between patterns?

3. Let's say I have a section with 10 tracks going on and I want to copy and manipulate all the tracks in a different section. How do I do this? Pattern copy doesn't work, neither does track copy. Do I have to copy each phrase individually or is there a quicker way to do this?

4. Is there any way to save mute settings for individual sections? For example, I have 2 sections with the same 10 tracks. In section A all tracks play, and in section B half are muted. Is that possible?

Thanks in advance

anyone with an RM1X .....HELP
NO.... GO AWAY!!!!!

:p

Just kiddind..... Wondered when you'd have something.....

1. Pattern-> Chain-> Song.... But I don't take it to the song side unless i'm doing a gang of change ups. CHAIN mode I don't really fuck with. Most of the time i'l just set the pattern to 128 measures and the CHAIN mode "song convert" will create a 128 measrure song out of my pattern.

2. I never noticed it.... If you are talking about the timing between it switching patterns then you might wanna check the... Uhhhh... Setup or whatever it's called.... Where you cange the pattern switching time from 1/16 to 1measure. I think that;s what your're asking....

3. You need to copy pattern SONG1-A to SONG1-B.... Really don't do this much. If you can peep that song (rm1x file) I posted a while back and you'll see I keep it simple. Rather than patterns i'd copy and paste those and freak em as it went on.

4. Probably already know but... You can save your mute setting on the 5 black pads by pressing shift and that pad in the mute screen. The pads before those will mute 1-8 or 9-16 or all off or all on. One of my favorite features.... But If you just want certain stuff to completely disappear from a pattern I suggest tapping the pattern mode button twice and just flat out removing that phrase from the track. This will also allow you to record a new phrase without messing up the old phrase (I think).

I was kinda rushing cuz I need to dip across town and get some scsi adapter shit and 1/4" plugs so hit me up if none of that makes sense.

Peace....

Thanks Lazi. That info about the pattern switching helped, now I don't need to deal with listening to stuff in pattern chain.

I'm gonna check out that file you posted and as soon as I get a new HD for my machine I'll mix this track I'm working on and post it.

It only took about 20 hours, but I'm finished with my first track with the RM1x (I'll post it next week). Got another question though.

How do you select 1/10 beat increments (like 120.5). The only way I see to do it is by using the TAP button, but that's kind of hard to do. Is that the only way?

Arrow (scroll) buttons.... Just select BPM and scroll over then plus minus it.... I think.....

How are the RM1X sounds grabbing you???

That did it, thanks Lazi.

On the sounds, I wasn't too impressed to be honest. Some of the pads and metallic sounding stuff is alright. I don't see myself using them very much, but you never know. I like the effects though, a lot nicer than the MC505 IMHO.

It's funny the sound sets in the 303/305/505 and RM1x are very similar, some of the patches actually have the same exact name.

the rm1x has more voices than the 303, so use them and double your patterns and change them slightly or add different fx ;)
I usually work with logic on my pc and use the rm1x for live tweaking.

An ideal addendum for your rm1x will be a used rack sampler and a tiny little mixing board like the small behringer or mackie.
I found out, that the headphone on the rmx is really borring, but the rm1x itself sounds ok if i route em thru my analog console. This really made a huge tonal difference!

Thanks for the tips man. I'm only using the RM1x as a sequencer though. I have a bunch of modules and samplers as my sounds sources.

Personally, I think the sounds in the RM1x pale in comparison to the 303/305/505, which aren't that great either IMHO.

BTW, what do you mean by "double your pattern"? You talking about layering sounds?

Yuh.... I wasn't feeling the sounds from the start myself but something about em just makes em work. Seems like some of cats favorite tracks by me are the all RM1X beats... Sometimes when all else fails I can still drop a decent piece with just the RM1X as a standalone. Like those last beats I posted are all RM1X shit I did at the crib whenever I was bored.... Directly off the box.....

But... At first all I was really happy with using was the basses cuz they always either go low and stayed kind flat or just they had that funk. I got maybe a hundred or so tracks with the RM1X doing just the bass and the basslines damn near make the beats. Later on come to realize the drums can sound pretty decent (not touching most samplers though) once you hit em with the 2 or 3 band eq move the mid up and add some highs. That'll at least take the GMish sound off em... Then the strings and just about everything else just really, really need those envelopes to be tweaked on and once you got em sequenced the +/- octave option will usually set em off on some whole other shit. Top that off with a little filter adjustment and it's a new story. Never as clear and bright as some other sounds modules but very useable in the end.

On everthing though....Don't sleep on the basses... With the attack and decay turned back and the some of em give up dope bass stabs....

But yuh.... It'sa gang of uses for the RM1X sound set that when you first hear em you wouldn't think they could handle. When tweaked on shit is wide open though.

Yup....

You know what, I haven't played with the sounds enough to really pass judgement. I got my favorite sounds sources right now, but those will get old soon and I'll be looking for something else.

I wasn't thinking of the RM1x as a sound source, but since you recommend it I'll take some more time tweaking and experimenting with it.

Thanks for the advice as always Lazi.

Im don't think that the rm1x is a very good sound source, but it sounds ok to me.
One major drawback ist, that he offers only one stereo l/r output pair.

The rm1x is a very nice sequencer tough, and if you use him in conjunction with a K2000r as i do, he is really nice for small arrangements :)
