This one sounds good. I like the distortion on the vocals. That cajon really does sound cool in the mix. What is that thingy you're shaking? The acoustic sounds good also.

The bass sounds great! I live the heaviness to it.

That cajun thing is real cool, sounds as good as drum kit! What it is? Just a wooden box with a hole or does it have Pentium processor in it or something?

Hahaha I'm pretty sure it only has a hole, but it does sounds really awesome in this mix.

Love the song, the vid is a bit "muso-centric".

The vocal treatment is nice and crisp at first, but the distorted telephone effect is a bit tiring after a while.

Thanks, guys. The shaker is a mini-tamborine thing that came in a First Act percussion kit. I got it for my girls for Christmas one year, but I use the stuff more than they do. The cajon really is just a wooden box with a hole in the back. I made mine out of an old dresser. The thin piece of wood that was the bottom of one of the drawers made a perfect batter head. I left out the snares and made it a lot bigger than the ones I've seen for sale and I left the top (the seat) free so I can move it around to get different sounds. Micing has been a challenge, but I'm getting some pretty good sounds out of it lately. I don't know what "muso-centric" means, but I'll Google it. :)

I forgot to touch on the bass too. I really struggle with tone when I record it, this one just happened to work to the song's advantage. It's a REALLY cheap bass and the amp I'm using is a just modified guitar amp. It's difficult to bring the thump under those circumstances.

"muso-centric" (as far as I'm concerned) means it's designed to appeal to musicians rather than relate to a "punter" in explaining the content of the song. A friend of mine regards all jazz like that.

And before you ask... a "Punter" (as far as I'm concerned) is someone who will regard your song at a gut level rather than instantly think of 10 other ways to mix it (like you would expect in the "MP3 mixing clinic")...

Right on. Yeah, the videos are secondary at best. I started watching this guy on Youtube, Jack Conte, who defines "Video Song" as what-u-see-is-what-u-hear and I found it intriguing. I have some background in video so I started taking video of every track and throwing them together. They're more for entertainment than a this-is-how-I-did-it factor. If I were having a specific problem or issue with an instrument or a track, I might make a clip highlighting that, but I'm not looking to remix any of these. They're the projects of weekends past. I'm just looking for feedback for the future. Like "You are doing something terribly wrong, here is how you fix it".

Well you might just be way ahead of me on "video fashion" ActionDeath :)

And if I sound dry, it must be because I'm Australian, I actually have a grin from ear to ear :D

I think this sounds good, but the vocal treatment (not the quality of the singing) is a stand out "in need of work".

Thank ya, sir! Your grins and advice are much appreciated :D

If you get a quick minute, do a youtube search for Jack Conte. His song "Gulf" in particular. If you're anything like me, you'll watch several more of his videos and learn VOLUMES on video fashion. LOL, not so much on the other kind of fashion though. The dude is scruffy looking and he records in his pj's.
