I'm trying to decide between these two converters here but just can't seem to make a decision. The concensus seems to be that the Lavry's are very transparent so you're not going to get any coloration. What you hear is what you get. The Apogee converters seem offer a slight coloration. That's the only difference I can find between them...oh and the price.
I'm looking at getting 16 channels of A/D conversion and 2 channels of D/A conversion. If I go all Lavry (Blue) to cover these needs, my total would be roughly $10,000. If I were to go all Apogee to cover these needs then my total would be roughly $6500 and I would be getting 14 extra channels of D/A if I got the DA-16X.
Also, is there any truth to staying with the same company for both A/D and D/A or could I mix and match such as using Lavry for the A/D and Apogee for the D/A?
If anyone can share some opinions or experience on this I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
