I've got a Lava Lamp, but it's broken - is this better than having no Lava Lamp, or is it completely worthless?

Opinions please.

No matter how tasty the stuff inside the lava lamp looks. Do NOT try to taste it. Trust me. :D

I suppose I shouldn't ask how you know this...? ;-).

What is broke about your lava lamp? Seems to me you just need to replace the bulb or fix the wires or something. Either way it is best to have a broken lamp then no lamp at all.

You might as well keep it, broken lava lamps have almost no resale value, not that they are particularly expensive to start with.

I'd say its definitely better than no lava lamp at all. Although you may experience some very slight muddiness in your mixes.

My mixes didn't translate well to other systems until I got a lava lamp. I just have to remember to turn it on. I blame shitty mixes on times when the lava isn't flowing.

When I say it's broken, I can fix it - I'm just too poor. Nice to have some votes of confidence though!

Don't get rid of it until you have a replacement! I agree, mixes suck without it. :)

Why are lava lamps so special?

Be this a serious question? What's life without a lava lamp? More to the point, what's a studio without the influence of those pretty wavy wax things?

Damn, i'm serious. What's their significance? Do they symbolize anything?

Nah, not really. They're just a neat thing that no one should be without.

Turn on a tube amp, tube mic, tube pre, etc. at the same time you turn the lava lamp on. When the lava starts flowing, the tubes should be just about warmed up too. ;)

It all makes sense now.
