Lateset tape + tape scam

I totally agree with ZEE...good gracious nobody is MAKING you buy ANYTHING...when you buy something or bid on something you're bidding on the disclaimers as well...you're assuming a certain level of trust and if you donzt like that, OR the seller, or WHATEVER, there's an easy solution...DON'T BID. And if there are obvious ill intentions being played out then they can be reported and donzt ever expect that to fix everything...caveat emptor.
 
There's an element of risk buying anything from 'bay clist whatever. Decide how much you can risk on an "as-is" sale and live with it. I've lost money, and I've got some good deals, no extremes on either end, so it tends to balance out. (unlike my friend above who seems to find mind boggling great deals on a regular basis :-) )

I'll caveat that with one bad deal, a seller from Canada packed a Fostex 80 (or rather *didn't pack it*) and it was totally whacked in transit. It was insured, but insured via Canada Post. So USPS and Canada Post both pointed the finger at each other. I then left on vacation, so I ran out of time to deal with it, so I don't know if I could have recovered from the insurance, or from the seller for doing such a crappy job of packing. (See packing 101 thread) his pacakaging was a joke! (After 5 years I'm still pissed off about that.....)

I guess my point there is if you're taking insurance into account in the transaction, make sure you understand how the claims process works ahead of time.
 
At least with C-list or any purchase you can drive to there is at worst a visual once over before you hand over your cash, and at best a chance to plug it, run it, record to it, etc. . I have walked on local deals when I found the not-so-hidden flaw.

On the other hand one Clist seller GAVE me a Revox PR99 MkII I went to look at when I pointed out a broken switch and "funny noise". His words..." no one else is going to want it. Do you want the tapes and reels too?"

New switch and good cleaning= great deal
 
My very best mind boggling deals have been all craigslist...some have been distant and therefore involved shipping, the big stuff was, of course, local. Craigslist is my first choice.

As a general practice I never relax on a transaction that involves an item to ship until it is in my hands, and I always assume that anything can and will go wrong between the time I commit and the time I get it regardless of what the seller claims. That's the risk I choose to assume.

Hey...so many in the world are worried about if they are going to eat that day, or maybe if its the day they or a loved one will die from thirst, starvation or disease...or maybe from fighting to get what is theirs which is often simply their rights...I ain't gonna complain about somebody that wants to be an eBay weasel...they're only as much a weasel as you make them if you choose to bid on their turd. Outside of that its all just good entertainment! ;)
