latency

I might be in the wrong forum for this question, but I'm wondering if anybody knows anything about latency between a midi controller and a PC based sampler like Fruityloops. I was planning to buy a midi keyboard this weekend that connects via USB, as my PC has no midi inputs. Will I run into latency issues because my soundcard is not good enough, or will the USB connection be sufficient?

MIDI itself is likely slower than the USB part.

There are always some delays with MIDI controllers and the resulting connected gear, but the times are quite small. I doubt the difference between sound card and USB would be detectable.

Given that many guitar players use MIDI controllers (I do), it may well be a reasonable place for the question.
