Latency problem

I like to do some home recording at home. Just for fun nothing serious.
I usualy use midi drum with real guitar and bass.
I have a latency problem. I use the onboard card of my asus mother board. It sound good enough for my needs it's just that I have a big latency problem. The lowest I can bring it down is 21ms.

Is there anyway to bring it lower then that?
Or should I go buy a new sound blast audigy or something like that?

I don't want to put 3 or 400 bucks on a soundcard.

We need a little more info like what recording software are you using, computer spec, ECT and please dont get a sounblaster card... You can get a M-audio audiophile 24/96 for around $100.00 or less and it is way better..

I tried the card with guitar rig and cubase 3

my computer:
asus K8N-E deluxe
athlon 3400+
1 gig of ram
Win XP SP2

I will look for the sound card.
I need something with the midi sound integrated since I don't have any sound source so far.

Like I said, it's mostly for fun. Record myself when I practice stuff ect...

I don't believe there is. For $100 it's unlikely to have its own synth.

I only use mine for audio, though, so I'm not the best authority.

you could always try the ASIO4ALL drivers..ive heard they work wonders on standard onboard soundcards..i havent tryed them personally though

wow it worked!!

My only problem now is with guitar rig,
it seem like there is a loop. Look like my sound is going back in the program and cause feed back.

Right now my recording setup is very basic.
My guitar/bass is pluged into a little behringer console, then it going in my computer, from there it's going in the speaker. The sound is not coming back in the console.

What can cause this loop?

I can use guitar rig as a plug in in cubase no problem but I would like to be able to use it in real time.

If you didn't get the answer about the integrated midi sound, you could always get a soundblaster for that and then use the GM midi sounds in it. Of course you could try software like Vienna if you wanted to download new soundfonts for your midi and then change them around.

Today I bought the M-audio audiophile 24/96 sound card that you all recommand me. It sound 1000 times better.
