Latency problem w/ AA1.5 & M-Audio Mobile Pre USB

so i just got this new laptop and loaded Audition 1.5 on it, and am using M-Audio's Mobile Pre USB input box to record. The problem I am having is this:

When I record into AA in multitrack using the MobilePre, it monitors just fine, no latency whatsoever. But as soon as I hit STOP, the newly-recorded audiofile is about one Half second behind where it should be in the multitrack session. It's no big deal to grab it and drag it back to where it should be, but it makes punching in and doing small sectional overdubs a real bitch. I can work around it, but i'm wondering if anyone else has come across this problem or anything similar. i tried testing it in CEP2.0, but so far i can't get CEP2.0 to recognize the MobilePre as an input device.

The speed of the laptop is not the issue: it's a Pentium4 3.0 GHz processor, with 2 gigs of RAM and a 7600 RPM hard drive, and handles Reason and Ableton like a champ.

any ideas?

I have two clients (I am an IT Consultant) with the same issue with 1.5, one of them went back to 1.0, the other just put up with it as they were in the process switching to Protools for most of their work. The sound hardware was different. The one I have dealt most with had two Aardvark Q10's.

To date I am not aware of any fix, but would be interested in hearing if you've found one.

If you don't have a sound card that synchs to a word clock, try going to Options/Settings/Multitrack and ticking the boxes that say "Correct for drift in recordings" and "Correct for start synch in recordings."

If you are using a setup that synchs to a word clock, do the following to correct for latency: record a signal with a sharp attack on track 1 (I use a drum machine handclap). Record it to track 2. Using the vertical cursor and the time scale, calculate the latency by subtracting the peak of the hit on track one from the same peak on track 2. Go to Options/Device Properties/Wave In tab, and enter the result in "Multitrack Latency." This delays the playback of the first tracks while you are recording new ones so they end up in synch.

I use a Terratec EWS88D sound card, and have 0 issues with latency, up to a max (so far) of 20-some tracks.
