Latency issues? Using software in a live mix

Just being curious..and having not used any recording software in a serious manner as of yet, is it possible to use the mixing console in any of the major recording apps (sonic, sonar, protools, etc..) live? If so, could software effects be used also? I've read somewhere in another post that some guy used his protools le system live - incorporating effects in the live PA mix. Someone had a comment on latency issues, but this guy said it worked out great. I'll be running a Aardvark Q10, with 8 ins and 8 outs (I believe) which has full duplex capability for all the channels.

What I am wondering is if it would be possible to run...say...my guitar channel in the following manner:

Guitar Mic line --> Q10 In --> Q10 out --> Mixer channel --> PA Out

And in the Q10 pass through have effects running on that channel? I havn't fully researched this to see if it's even possible, but if latency is not an issue I think it would be pretty interesting to try out. I'll be running on plenty of CPU - an AMD 1.4ghz with >=256RAM.

Note: Sonic XL claims to have the lowest latency available. They really didn't go in depth on this statement though.

i'm using sonar and the omni studio from midiman....with revalver my pc works a lot like a guitar amp....i've loaded other plug ins at the same time, sounds as responsive as any digital stomp box....however, i still like the sans amp....
