Reaper & Clarett Issue

I'm not sure this is possible, but here goes:

I've been using a Clarett8+ with Reaper, and assigning ins & outs through the program with Reainsert to patch in outboard gear.
I've run out of inputs, so wanted to use the 2 on the front (1 & 2), though when I listen back to the signal, it's in stereo, with the outboard gear on one side, even though the tracks are in mono.
I think this may have to do with 1 & 2 being the monitoring default in the interfaces 'control' software, and their routing cannot be changed.

Anyone able to change these settings and use these front channels in this manner?

In Reaper's TCP, the Input routing for a track has Input Mono In1 or In2 above the Input Stereo In1/In2. Have you selected Mono In1 or In2?

It was a Clarett issue - it was using the same tracks Reaper uses for its default playback tracks (1 & 2.)
Had to assign the outboard gear outs to different tracks, then it worked.
