I'm using an audiogram 6 on a new asus laptop and cubase 5. I lowered the buffers inside of cubase as low as I could to 512 but I still have a delay when I want to hear my effects on vocals using monitor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Effects plugins can also add latency. How bad is the latency when the plugins are disabled ?

What FX are you using while recording? One good way to compromise for vocal tracking, is to use only one reverb on an FX channel. If you are recording tracks on a full mix that is loaded with plugins, either 'Freeze' the other tracks, or export the mix to a stereo track. Open that mix in another project, track your vocals, then export them back into the original project.

512 isn't really low, I'd actually call that high. Have you tried lower?

re

So glad to have help!!

512 is as low as I could set the buffer, I tried to do less but it sets itself back to 512.

I only have reverb and chorus fx's on the track. I'll try the freezing / import export technique but it has that delay even with no fx on the track, I can't seem to get that input latency lower than 69. Also it's already popping and crackling. I have a new asus laptop with 8 gig ram and quad core processor, is there a way to allocate more memory to cubase? Could this be because of the audiogram interface or is it sound card related or what you guys think? Honestly I want to have really decked out vocal effects for the singer to hear while recording.

So you have an option for a lower buffer size, but it wont let you select it? If you are already experiencing dropouts (pops and clicks), then something else is taking from your CPU power.

What else are you running on the laptop? Sounds like you need to set it up with audio recording as the priority. This involves removing unnecessary crap. It really depends on whether you want to use it for recording alone, or if you need it for other things as well. It is always best to designate a PC for recording alone if you want it to perform at it's full potential. Simple things like unused programs, anti-virus, updates, and internet can make a laptop fail as a recording computer.

BTW, tried to download the manual for your interface, but it stops on me for some reason.

Yeah I can select it, the buffer was at 2048 and I dropped it to 512 but that's as low as it would let me take it down. COuld it be the interface, I know its old, it's 1.0 usb. I will look into setting up the laptop for audio recording better, I don't really have that much going on though I don't think, possibly antivirus but that's all.

You definitely want to set power settings for high performance and make audio priority. There is much to be found by Googling the subject. You may just want to invest in a newer interface. If you cant get that one below 69 ms, I don't see you having much luck tracking while monitoring through Cubase. Man, even the website where I was trying to download the manual just locked up Firefox again. Sounds like there is no support there anymore.

What is it you are trying to achieve here? Maybe I can give a biased pinion that you can ignore. lol! :D

lol I won't ignore any advice! Honestly I just want to record vocals and hear all the effects while doing it. I can record without the effects no problem but when i try to monitor and hear all the effects I get the delay.

Yeah, typically that has to do with how powerful your setup is, as well as how it is optimized, and the gear used. Many variables. Fine tune what you can first and see what your setup is capable of. Then decide what you need to upgrade.

What OS are you running? Here is another good page with detailed steps for Vista/W7. Ignore the manufacturer that posts this info. The setup of OS is the same for all interfaces.

Im on win7 x64. 8 gigs ram (i noticed ur on 16 you hater :). Quad core i7

I'll op the system and get that driver for the yamaha. Glad u found that

LOL! 16 is way overkill. It was basically free with the package I got when I built the PC. 4 gigs would work just fine.

BTW, I can record vocals with around 8ms of latency while monitoring a 30 track mix with a buttload of VST's running on this rig. I have recording nirvana now. Cost me over a grand tho. I was able to do quite a bit tho with an optimized dual core XP. Just have to get it setup right. And interface can be a big variable.

Whoa, yeah man. Totally update the Yammy driver first. That may be the whole problem. Fingers crossed for ya. :D

if you want to trade for the 16gig i'm ok with that!

I tried the driver but still stuck at 69 input latency with the delay and crackles and pops. I'm working with comp settings now.

I optimized the pc and installed the new driver with no luck. I even upped the buffer size back up to 2048 and I'm still getting the crackling , only with the cubase monitoring button on, same for the delay, only with monitoring on, which is what I need on to hear the fx on the vocals right? I'm stumped on what to do next guys.

Are you sure the crackling wasn't recorded while tracking? If you get crackling playing back say an imported MP3, then there would be a severe problem. You may have just recorded the dropouts when your PC wasn't optimized. Try test recording something new to determine if it is even a problem anymore.
