Latency and file storing question

I am afraid these questions have been asked before, but, couldn't find the threads where I saw them.

1) I have an outboard mixer, and a friend of mine fixed the latency for me awhile ago, and now I forgot how he did it. Anyone? right now I can hear clear "delays" when I try to dub a track on top of another.

2) I still haven't figured out a better way to store files in Sonar. They are all in messed up codes in one big folder. I want to edit them in SoundForge, but then I have to go thru 1000 wav. files to find the one I want. How do you manage your files??

I don't know the answer to number one on your list but this is how I save my files.

First I differentiate between active, work in progress files and finished/exported files.

For finished/exported files, I save them as Cakewalk .bun files under the file name of the song. I save them to a finished project filke under the name of the artist and/or CD title. I also save exported wav files in the same way.

Work in progress files, I save as cakewalk Normal files. So when you hit Save, it saves them using the orrible c/walk file naming system.

You can tell your system where to store each type of file by going Options> Global > Folders and then browse each category until you point to where you want your files to be stored.

Once you have saved your files as a .bun, you can then delete your individual wav files.

Some people always save to .bun and never as a Normal save.

Sonar 2.0 solves this by saving all wav's under the name of your song.

Sounds like you have Input Monitoring enabled. You need to disable it. It's located in the Options -> Audio dialogue.

Sounds like you are still using Sonar 1.0. Cakewalk has given us some new options for file management in Sonar 2.0.

Personally, however, I have always found it best and easiest to just let Sonar do the file management. Trying to sort thought hundreds of csokk9r.wav files is not my idea of fun.

If you want to edit an underlying wave file in Sound Forge, you should load the song into Sonar and then highlight the particular track you wish to edit. Then launch Sound Forge from your Tools menu (you can clone and archive the track first for protection).

If Sound Forge is not appearing on your Tools Menu, you need to do a relatively easy edit to your Windows Registry to make it appear. There is a thread somewhere in this forum that tells you how to do it. You can probably find it by searching on Registry.
