Ok, not really. This is the last tune I'm putting on our little homemade CD. It's an old song that I sang (sorry), but my daughter and I play it live, so I wanted to put it on the CD if it's salvageable - and I got live drums for it recently and a new bassline. The vocal's kinda' smashed b/c when I tried to resing it, it just sucked.

Anyway, thoughts on the low end would be a huge help - I'm supposed to start making copies tonight. Brutal honesty in all respects is appreciated, actually.

"Crawdad" cowrote it with me
"jwoo10" played drums - (God freaking bless cool people)
"Trojka" played bass - (God freaking bless cool people).

"JULIET"

LOL @thread title (sort of).

Low end sounds good Chris. No problems on my monitors. The lead vocal could come down a bit maybe. They also seem a little bottomy if that makes any sense. How are the drum tracks done ? I'm asking because for my taste they seem pretty far back in the mix. The snare seems a little harsh as well.

Great song Chris. :) Love the harmony's and all the little instrument accents in the song.

So what's next after this CD project ?

I can freaking die in peace.

hey, thanks for checking it out, Dave. You're a good egg.

After this one, I have to take a short break from collabs so that I can put together a "collab" CD, lol - Stuff like "Whimper" and "Fading" and "If Wishes Were Dollars," and I'll recycle some decent recordings like Old Yeller and possibly Juliet. I also wanna' put the 2 mbuster tunes on there, because they're just real different for me, and the "Time Marches On" thing with MCGitarz. Hmmm...that's 8. "Couldn't Care Less" qualifies since I got drums from a real drummer. I think I'll put "A Lot Like Me" on there even though it's not a collab because I wanna' put that freaking song on a CD.

There...I'm done with that collab CD now - cooooool. My goal is to send copies to everybody I can track down that played on those tunes over the past couple of years. Then I'll give my wife one that she'll use as a coaster...I guess that's it. I think I'm going to call it "ALL ABOUT ED," because that just sounds funny to me.

Guess your tunes are next, LOL. :D

Nice, man. I like your voice alot.

The pedal steel is really nice too.

Now I know who gave me the rep points with that comment .. :D ;)

Chris,
The song you were talking about was "Juliet", right? Wouldn't really matter if I listened to the wrong song. I loved it! But I've said that about all the stuff you post. Your voice is great, and it suits the music. I loved the interplay of all the instruments. Did I hear a little wah pedal toward the end? God I wish I could do stuff like that. I need more experience with recording, though. Eventually I will get there. You can take that well deserved break. Great Job!
Eddie :D :D :D

my ears are nackerd (just played a gig) so i shant comment now. all i have to say that no way is it 4:20 it seemed like a 20min song......... although i am tired so that might explain it.. erm was this post useful? i'll listen to it properly later. if was anythign like the last one - then it'll not have many problems, and they will be things i cant hear.

yep this post was definatly useful :)

HAHAHAHahahahahahaa...yeah, actually that was helpful. :D - I think a chorus needs to happen a bit sooner. THANKS FOR LISTENING FOR WHAT FELT LIKE A WEEK TO YOU. :D :D :D ;)

Rokket - you're very kind. I appreciate the listen and the comments a lot. The "wah" at the end was fake, lol. Just a digital effect done after the fact. Again, thanks man.

geet - thanks for the voice comment. I really tried to resing this, but I was informed that I sounded like I was asleep at the mic, so I just kept the old vocal track. Anyway, much appreciate the listen.

vestast - Man, wtf is going on in the Cave? lol - "MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A BIG F&^% YOU TO ALL" is what's going on in there, heheheee..thanks for the low end check.

Chris, Sounds great as usual. Why do I always say the same thing on your threads? Hey, When are you going to do the three guit part for my song? lol

Tony, seriously...if there's anything you have that you'll sing on, I'm in, lol.

He had to pull all of his internet stuff down when he got signed. They were mostly really horrible recordings of really good songs, lol. I guess until the album comes out, you'll just have to assume it's all hype!!! :D

(maybe he wouldn't mind me hosting one tune for you to check out - This is one the whole clinic kinda' got behind and pitched in on...I may be in there somewhere :D ). I have this one because I mixed it. - Lemme' know when you've got it so I can nix it. http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1698&alid=601

DON'T FREAKING TELL, lol.

Chris, sorry, I HAD to.... Who played bass on this? It freakin sounds like ME! I shit you not. The tone, the feel, style.... kinda spooky 'cause I'm 100% self taught and have no bass player influences.....
Eddie

I put up a song template for my best friend to sample to see if I was on track with the lyrics he is writing. Check out the bass on this and see if I am off my rocker:

It's not mixed well, and I recorded the whole thing in about 20 minutes, but the bass stands out good enough to hear it... Just don't listen to the lo-fi version if you can help it.... It's pretty rough compared to the hi-fi...

Yeah, I can definitely hear similarities. Pretty good tone...fat, clear - what else is there, eh? The guy that played bass on Jamal's tune goes by the name "Guernica," and I haven't seen him around here much lately, although he still hangs out at RP.

Tony...I don't remember what I did to his voice, but it had a TON of sibilance on it, so I'm pretty sure I cut the highs a lot...he tracked it with an SP C-1, so it was pretty "airy" to begin with.

Chris, your the freakin man. One more. Sibilance? Whats that?

Thanks man

exaggerated consonant sounds on a vocal - Usually the "SSSSSSSSssssss," but can also be a "T" or even "SHH" or "CH"...whenever those hard consonants just peel your eyebrows off in a bad way. Reverb can and does make it worse. On Jamal's tune, I had to compress (De-ess) the vocal so much to cut down on the sibilance that he started sounding like he was singing with a lisp, lol.
