Eternally Striving
Thanks again for the mix critiques.
The vocals are louder in this mix than most of my others

Any suggestions?
These songs will be going to mastering tomorrow. :)

Hello MadHatter

I hear your song on my desktop-speakers so I can not really say something about the audio-quality. But I really like your track. Especially the vocals are awesome...but when you sing "take me away" they are a bit too loud, in my opinion.
The ending of the song comes very suddenly. I expected a little instrumental part to kick in at the end but it just kinda...stopped. That can´t be the real ending to this song! The track cries out for something more epic!

Good bye!
Daniel

I don't know about too loud except for maybe the 3rd and 4th time of singing take me away where it's sung higher...

Anyone else find it too loud? I don't know if I disagree or agree, it seems fine and could come up or down I'm not sure how it translates on other speakers.

Epic? At 4 minutes already I thought it was epic enough. This is a slightly shorter version of the original demo but I thought it was pointless what was on the demo. I thought it was a fairly strong ending but I guess not?

Thanks for your opinion, it's appreciated.

Hello again!

Well, it could be my trashy desktop-speakers. These things let great songs sound like garbage...I wish I had a good audio-system at hand right now. :(

Your song is 4 minutes long? I really didn´t look a the length so I am really surprised. It SEEMED to be shorter than it actually is...which is a good sign. A good song is always over too fast. I really would like the track to be longer. Maybe you could upload the original demo so I can give it a listen.

Good bye!
Daniel

Hmmm...I can´t really tell the difference between both versions (maybe because I am too tired right now) but I have an idea for the ending: Maybe you can let the piano play for a little longer until it fades out. The overall song sounds great but theres something about the ending that is bugging me. It just doesn´t give the song the closure it needs. But maybe that´s just me.

the only diferrence structure wise is the additional take me aways before it kicks in - on the old version it's just piano and vocals

mmm, and now that you mention it, i hear an idea for a fade out for a piano/loop deal.. thanks :)

I'm just gonna talk about one thing... I think, but I can't be sure, that your songs have a good message to them. Why am I unsure? Because the vocals are buried, and they cannot be easily discerned. I think this is a terrible mistake, especially if your audience includes the type of people that look for a message, and I think it does. Really, your music sounds like worship music, and the message is of upmost importance in that genre.

Just my .02

Enjoyed it. Good song and performance.

Entry of the guitar on the left is a little loud.

At :56 the bright elec gtr on the left is too loud and piercing, some later similar spots.

Other than that, very nice.

awesome quality and musicianship. sounds like a soft linkin-park song to me for some reason. sorry if that offends ya but it shouldnt.

Great mix and great song. What did you use for the vocal track?

hahah. Shawn you're always killing me on needing more vocal. On my speakers it seems pretty loud to me. Not killer, but a good volume over the music. Maybe I need new monitors? hah.

And definitely not worship music though. Positive in some sorts, some songs have some spiritual things. Some songs have a bitter point of view on those spiritual things as well.

Heard on the guitars being too loud at some parts.

"What did you use for the vocal track?"
- As far as processing? or signal chain?

"sounds like a soft linkin-park song to me for some reason."
- to each his own. no offense taken. I've been compared to odder (is this a word) things. :)

I just checked a couple of the tunes that you posted here, and I´m pretty impressed...

Do you have any outboard gear besides the FirePod?
How treated is your recording room?

Thanks!

I have tons of outboard gear at my disposal. But no..
I didn't use any of it here on my recordings.

I recorded in several different places. The piano was recorded in a church sanctuary that seats around 1000. It's an old building acoustically designed for projecting from the stage since there were no PA's then.

The guitars and drums were recorded in an unfinished loft. It was carpeted however. And all that was for walls was fiber glass and wood. So it's a super dead room but sucked some of the highs out.

We did track one or two lead parts in a studio we had access to, on those few tracks we used a Grace 101 pre or UA610 pre.

Vocals... The room was a closet :) with some wanna-be treatment.

Had I the option, the first thing I would've put money into is treatment. But I have no real dedicated place for recording, so I made due with what I had and worked around the room, or choose rooms carefully etc.

I´m listening to the original demo and the new version sounds a lot better...
Which process did you applied to it? (besides replacing the drum sound)...
