Large room echo

does anyone have a suggestion on how to reduce reverb in a large room. The measurements are 40'x40'. we are looking for the least expensive options to do this. the room is also being used as a church chapel and need to be removable. any help would be great

Ideally, you'd want to erect a couple of new walls to get rid of parallelism. Seems like that would be a real chore with 40' on a side... and I imagine the ceiling is pretty high, too. Well, how about some giant heavy curtains hanging about a foot out from each wall? These could be drawn closed for use and then opened later for other purposes. Just some ideas.

Acoustics are three-dimensional - how tall is the room, and what shape is the ceiling? Steve
