Large or small diaphram omni's

Very often there is a tiny hole or capillar tube here to even out inside pressure of the capsule and atmospheric outside pressure. Otherwise, in different areas of country it will sound sound differently.

Another thing to think about. While LDC capsules in omni have already mentioned bass roll off, 'true omnies' have another drawback--directivity pattern changes with frequencey, where wavelength of the signal approaches size of the capsule. So on low and mid it works as an omni, and on high frequencies the pattern becomes more like a cardioid. Of course, the smaller capsule, the more uniform directivity pattern, but here we run into other problems--lower sensitivity, worse signal/noise ratio, etc.

Huh, truly--there is no perfect mic, just compromizes.
