large diaphram+phantom power???

if i get a large diaphram mic, do i need like a pre amp or phantom power stuff...i know very little, so if you could give me some backround i would really appreciate it. For example, just to get the mic to pic up sound and carry it to my recorder, what do i need to have???

Yeah, you're going to need a mic preamp to go along with a condensor mic. There are a few exceptions but very few. Damn near all stand alone mic preamp supply phantom power and at the entry level they're not too step, around $100 on to completely ludicrous amounts of money.
