Howdy,

Anybody using a "stock model" laptop / notebook for recording stuff and if so, which one?

I need a laptop for some other stuff and so of course want to be able to use it for music as well. I would be passing stuff from my DPS16 to take advantage of some mastering programs and the like.

I have been looking at the Dell site (Ispiron 4000 or 8000) and the Toshiba site (Satellite) as well.

What do you look for in a notebook for this kind of thing, anyway?

Thanks

they also have docking stations.

I use my laptop for recording, sometimes.

If I am dj'ing somewhere and I want to record the mix "live".

Or if I'm at home and I want to start making a dance/house track.

It will all depends on what kind of music you are trying to create.

I think that one of the problems you will eventually run into will be the hard drives rpm's (too slow). But for you that might not be the case (it depends on what you are trying to create).

Also, you will be limited to the amount of INS/OUTS, but again it depends on what you are trying to do...(plus, you could get a docking station).

I do however think that the "laptop" is a better option than the DPS16. The laptop gives you more tracks and it is easier to do edits. IMHO.

If you get the Toshiba, be aware. Make sure that it is compatible with your CD burning program.

I have a Tecra 8000. It seemed to have a conflict with the Adaptec software, so makesure you talk with a rep first.

I'll try to post somemore info later on today. :)

peace...
