ok, can't find what I need in forums, so I'll just ask it. I have a Tascam laptop, it's pretty fast, I've recorded with it lots. The only problem is that it only has the mic input, and of course I hate it. It has lots of noise. So with a 2-300 budget, what can I get in the way of an interface that's worth my money. Mostly what I'll be recording is guitar, vox, percussion, usually no more than three channels at a time from my mixer.

If you need more than 2 analog inputs, you have to increase your budget a bit.
Don't waste time on USB interfaces. Too many people have bad experiences with those (including me).
In the 2-300 budget there are the Echo Indigo IO (cardbus) and the M-Audio Firewire Audiophile. Both 2 analog inputs. The Audiophile also has digital i/o (coax spdif) and midi.

remember, I have a mixer, so I only need one analog input. So that beoing said is it still bad to use a USB.

also, with the suggestions you had for cards, do you know of lateny issues with them?
