i also want to use an analog mixer for tracking.
do i have to get a digi 001 or 002 or can i do this with an mbox. im confused and new to digital. i need to have at least six mic preamps for recording bands. thanks.

A Digi 002r will suit your needs perfectly with a laptop setup. the 001 is a PCI card based system and thus is for desktops or a laptop using a magma expansion chassis.

A 002 will treat you right.

You'll probably want to spend the extra 500 for the 002R, rather than the Mbox. The Mbox will work, but you can only get 2 tracks in/out simultaneously.

I've owned both and I gotta tell you the freedom of 6 extra (16 extra if you use ADAT in and SPDIF in) tracks is awesome :D

The Digi 002R is great: reliable, great software an dportable.

A cheap war to enhance your inputs through ADAT is the Behringer ADA800

does this mean on the inbox..you cant use all 4 channels at once...for example...2 of the mic inputs,...adn 2 line inputs...to mic a drumset
