I got this yesterday and hooked her up last night. I did direct A/B with my mackie 24x8 pres. This is my first real quality pre. I was really surprised at the difference between the mackie and the Langevin. The mackie pre sounds muddy and blah next to the Langevin. For the first time in my quest for quality recordings I heard results that would stand up to truly pro recordings. I used the optical limiter and a bit of high end EQ with a touch of vocal plate from a Lex MPX1 going straight to a HD24. Stunning clarity and sound quality. I had listened to the "listening sessions" and really, they don't begin to convey the dramatic difference a good mic pre will make. I guess it is the limitation of the mp3 format? Anyway, it makes a huge difference...

I'm not sure why you don't hear people mention this pre as much. In 2000 I purchased a Great River MP2 for mucho $$s, but I think if I had to do it again, I might have tried out the DVC. I like the idea of having the limiter built in. I also think it would have a bit more character than my MP2, not that I'm unhappy with the GR because it smokes on acoustic guitars and vocals, I just wonder if I would have also liked the DVC (with the added bonus of the eq and limiter)
Enjoy your toy!

I bought this unit after my dealer turned me on to it. I researched it as much as possible using reviews and web comments. It is about the same money as the Great River MP2H at $2k list. I found info at pretty much every forum I went to. The Google recording forum had a really good thread. The Prorecording forum had quite a few comments....even Fletcher really liked the unit. What pushed me to choose this unit was the integral ELOP, which according to Manley is an improved version of the ELOP box which runs around $1700 all by its lonesome! The Eq is limited, but very musical. The optical limiter is idiot proof and works exceedingly well. I've tried it on vocals and accoustic guitar and am very pleased with the results.... to say the least.
