Lady I Idolize

Hopefully one more down on the way to the completion of the next compilation ...

Any/all comment warmly appreciated.

Very nice sounds Kev....the guitar is really sweet. Nice....and great vocals as always. Nice tune all around...good sounds, and a balanced mix. I got nothing I could help you with, but enjoyed the listen....Thanks man.

Nice wide mix, great hawaiian guitar and harmonies.... Arrangement is very reminiscent of the 60's... Good one! :):D

Thanks you two!

The simple tunes are sometimes the toughest to mix right (this is two acoustic rhythm parts, the lap steel, bass, two vocalists, two electric guitars doing minor fills and tamborine -- not a lot of elements to the arrangement), and this one was a bit of a bear to get the levels balanced properly.

Eventually I settled on a big 'ol wide mix approach so that everything could fit on the soundstage comfortably together.

It's a straight up, 'ol time rock chord progression, but the lap steel really gives it a unique flavor ... well, I think so anyways ...

Thanks for lending your ears and your comments!

More than '60's, this actually harkens back a little to '50's to doo wop. :D

I'm listening on computer speakers, so take some of these comments with that in mind:

- The bass sounds a little boomy, you might try eq'ing it. Or maybe it's just too loud in the mix.

- Why no drums?

- Are the vocals the same singer? Sounds like it to me. If so, it might be nicer to add a different second voice. If they're not, well then you can ignore that comment. :)

Anyway, very nice. Reminds me of slow dancing with Susan Payne at the firehouse. :D

True ... there is a bit of a 50's tinge to it ... early 60's at the latest.

No drums because I once had them, and didn't like the mood they created. Too heavy, even played lightly. The kick/tamborine has the simplicity I was going for.

The bass, which I love, might be too forward because I love it -- but it doesn't overwhelm my little home system -- so it's probably something the M.E. can get under control.

There are two distinct singers. :)

Ah ... memories ... those early boy/girl moments are some of the strongest ...

Thanks bud!

cool song man, very beatlesesque and thats always a good thing :)

Thanks Raven!

I'm a Beatles fan and count them heavy amongst my formative writing influences ... and this is very much of their early period.

I've a slight affinity for writing songs that hold to "traditional" chord structures that were employed during that time, for one can immediately recognize the period by the nature of the way the chord structures moved.

That can't be said so much since ...

Thanks for checking in from Ireland! My daughter lives in Dublin and goes to school at Smurfit.

FWIW -- I've decided to remix -- as I continue to hear shit not normally noticed ... but art is anal ... wait ... or is that fart is anal??? Okay -- cheap poopie joke ...

Actually, just a few levels and I hope that'll do it.

I'll be back later ... soon ... my wife is off w/ friends this weekend ... so there will be adequate time to devote ...

Best,

I think a harpsicord or auto harp may add alot to this...has that frilly parlor feel to it..
